U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson, R-5th District, has been caught red-handed, or that's what the liberal activist group MoveOn.org would like voters to believe.

In a television ad airing in the Waterbury area, Johnson, a Republican, is being accused of accepting more than $250,000 from energy and oil companies and voting against legislation that would lower gas prices.

The NBC station in Hartford decided against running the controversial ad, but the Waterbury Fox-affiliate station, WTXX, is airing it, along with Johnson's counterattack.

The advertisement is the first in a series that MoveOn.org is planning to distribute.

The ads attempt to link Johnson to Texas Rep. Tom DeLay, Vice President Cheney and disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The liberal organization is targeting Republican incumbents in advance of the November elections.
