Hammered
What I Saw at the Republican Revolution
By John Feehery
Sunday, April 9, 2006; Page B01

,,,

Bill Clinton was impeached for three reasons: DeLay, Rudy and Scanlon.

Tom had the vision -- he was angry that Clinton lied to the American people, and he was not alone. Early on, as the House was considering beginning impeachment proceedings, the Democrats offered a resolution that could have led to a bipartisan process. But DeLay rejected it. He didn't want to give them an inch.

However, I told Tom that if he were seen as the driving force behind the impeachment effort, it would fail. A partisan impeachment of the president would never win conviction in the Senate. Tom didn't care. He told me he couldn't face his foster children if he did not demonstrate that Clinton's activity was morally wrong.

My stomach wasn't in this effort. I couldn't match the energy of Rudy and Scanlon. They were everywhere, doing the briefing books, leaking to reporters, doing the legal research and whipping the members. They spread rumors that there was evidence that Clinton had raped a woman. I told Tom I was leaving, and he was very gracious. His attack dogs were already on the prowl. He didn't need me

1. Yes.
He was one of the main hypocrites to persuade idiot republicans to vote for impeachment. Most were leaning toward censure but Delay made them all go to some smoke filled room and read over some bullshit papers about Clinton. I've hated Tom Delay ever since and am glad he recently stepped down with his slimey ass! What goes around comes around.

2. Still lying, huh, Tom?
DeLay didn't give a rat's ass what Clinton said or did. The goal was to avenge Nixon (a ridiculous and childish ambition, but what do you expect?) and any excuse would do. If they didn't get Clinton on the blowjob "lie," they would have impeached for jaywalking.

Do these assholes never tell the truth about anything?

3. Well known..
...see Hunting of the President (Conason and Lyons) or The Clinton Wars (Sid Blumenthal) for details of the 'evidence room' in the House where Delay kept all the stuff -- all raw reports, all uncorroborated.

This 'evidence' plus the very public threat of primary challenges against GOP representatives who wouldn't play ball, was responsible for the House proceding with impeachment, despite the results of the '98 mid-term election's ringing rejection of it.

4. I laugh at the GOP who want to divert issues to Bill Clinton
They only do so so out of weakness of their own stand. Typical republicans.

5. "angry that clinton lied to the american people"

8. And now the writer is the Veep for Motion Pictures of America
I was trying to figure out if he is a fundie too.. things he didn't mention, things he "can't say" ... (read won't say) ... but some insight on some of the players.

I do not remember the shootings and killings of the Capitol police/security officers - at the time ... writer says a "deranged" killer - going after Delay's staffers? I don't remember any of this but i was very busy musician when i wasn't working my day job.. so i missed a lot of stuff in those days.

anyone else remember these shootings?
