Ben Affleck: Bush 'Can Be Hung' for 'Probably' Leaking Plame's Name
This may or may not have been posted already. I did a search on the title, exactly as I have it in my subject line, and nothing came back. So THERE. Video clips are available at the link below.

Reminiscent of Al Franken on the Late Show last October, on Friday's Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, actor Ben Affleck charged that President Bush “probably also leaked” Valerie Plame's name and so “if he did, you can be hung for that! That's treason!” In full rant, an apoplectic Affleck asserted: “You could be killed. That's not a joking around Tom DeLay 'I'll do a year, I bribed the state officials with corporate money.' That's like they shoot you in the battlefield for doing that.”

Affleck appeared on Maher's panel with Senator Joe Biden and Bill Sammon of the Washington Examiner. A couple of minutes later, after Sammon suggested Tom DeLay's resignation means the loss of a “poster boy for the left” so they can't use him anymore to raise funds, Affleck besmirched DeLay as a “criminal” while simultaneously demonstrating his political naivete. Though the Texas redistricting orchestrated by DeLay made his district less Republican, Affleck contended: "Tom DeLay personally gerrymandered that district so severely that it looks like a map of Italy....There won't be a Democrat elected in that seat for a thousand years. You can't say he's the poster boy for the left. He happens to be an incredibly powerful Republican who is a criminal and now you blame Democrats for pointing it out!"

8. One of the greatest reviews of that movie....
"Gigli" wasn't car-crash bad; that kind of movie gets rubberneckers into the theaters. It was the sort of catastrophe people avert their eyes and minds from. It was starving-kids-in-Ethiopia bad.

9. I don't know how true
This story is, but you know that theaters have to fill a quota to show a movie a certain number of times. I heard that in order to fill this for Gigli there were some theaters showing shows at 3 or 4 in the morning.

2. This is typical "Bernard Goldberg" reporting....
I saw the show the other night and to me, Affleck's comments were done in a tongue in cheek fashion and not meant to be a calling for Bush to be hung. He also was just pointing out the seriousness of treason during a time of war, too. Watch the feeding frenzy start over this one.

This is the type of reporting that Bernard Goldberg does - taking things completely out of context.

6. Aw C'mon
I like Ben, despite Gigli and Jersey Girl and Armageddon, etc.. and have been secretly in love with Matt Damon for years.

Besides, political naivete or not, who among us wouldnt give their right arm to rant like that on TV??

Just stay out of small planes, Ben, and if you must fly in them, please dont take Matt with you.

7. Plame, Iran, Nukes, US Safety
Not sure he can be hung, but the implications to the dangers in saber-rattling re Iran should scare any American. Plame was apparently engaged in understanding and reporting back Iranian intelligence: http://postanapology.blogspot.com/2006/04/plame-iran-nuclear-weapons-us-safety.html#links
