War vs Iran=Canada
I have a son that turned 13 last week and all I've been thinking about is the possibility of in 5 years having to move us to Canada to avoid him having to go to a war started by a friggin IDIOT bent on accelerating the end times at the cost of MY son's life.Scary........

1. You might want to think in terms of a university education in
Europe. Canada is far too close for comfort and the SSS can possibly get him there.

4. Not a bad thought
I've always wanted to go to Europe-as a musician I have heard I would be appreciated there too...

5. Well...
...when the current phony war about immigrants overrunning the US moves into second gear, the Republicans will be claiming that our manifest destiny requries additional lebensraum (oops, slipped into German there for some reason; I meant "living space" of course) and that Canada would make a dandy 51st State. After all, there's hardly anyone living there and they're pretty much the same as them evil French anyway.

The only place you're likely to be safe is somewhere that:

(1) No US American would want to live there;
(2) No resources considered 'strategic' to the USA are located there;
(3) No government antipathetic to the USA rules there;

May I suggest Iceland? Kapingamarangi Island? The North Pole?

6. Check into countries that don't have a "return policy" with the US
for draft evaders. There are good reason why folks went to Canada during the Vietnam war and not other places.

14. Yeah, the last Liberal government established the policy
of not accepting war-evaders, and I don't really see the present Conservative government reversing this.

8. Peace to you. You may want to wait until after the elections 2006
before you put any plans in action. Living far don't get chased out of your own dam life. If you can help it. I know it is hard. Grief the loss for now of the place called home and live to find new meaning & love of your country. Grieving helps.

Plus you have to pace yourself. Plant a garden. Mentor a kid. Volunteer. Nobody can live on a diet of the harshness that is the news these days without some perspective. I you are young.. you need the perspective from some outside source more than anyone else.

People are good. You have bad luck right now in your country. Cry. Grieve. And have some balance. Take care of you & yours.

18. there won't be a draft
nope. we'll just keep sending the poor into the meat grinder and if that's not enough we'll buy mercenaries and if that's not enough we'll just nuke them. A draft would make any war that was not absolutely necessary politically untenable. The backlash would bring the entire war industry down. They won't take that risk. They've got a good thing going.

I'm most worried about the people who volunteer to defend our country and the people in Iran who might be on the receiving end of a nuclear bomb.

But if I had a teenager, even the remote possibility of a draft would scare the shit out of me too.
