Pharmacy school funding questioned
University stance on gay student attacked

By Mark Pitsch

The Courier-Journal

A day after a University of the Cumberlands student said he was expelled because of his homosexuality, a lawmaker called on the school yesterday to forgo $11 million in state money for a new pharmacy program.

"We are made in the image of God, and the time to discriminate is long gone," Rep. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington, said on the House floor during the state budget debate.

Stein also raised the prospect that the pharmacy school could not be accredited because its policy regarding homosexuality is at odds with guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

According to the council, schools seeking accreditation must have a policy "that ensures nondiscrimination as defined by state and federal laws and regulations, such as on the basis of race, religion, gender, lifestyle, sexual orientation, national origin or disability."

Should public funds be sent to a discriminatory college?

1. No public funds for them.
And they should be sued for whatever funds they have taken so far this fiscal year.

3. And how exactly did the student's actions affect the school?
This is what I don't understand. They can be as bigoted and intolerant as they like but for Christ's sake how do they justify expelling someone for something that does no one any harm? The school should lose all public funding and accreditation. If they would expel this student on grounds of "Christian principles", they probably also teach their students to withhold drugs to AIDS patients, not to mention birth control. I say the school should be shut down because it's a threat to public health and safety. If they want to just run a bible school, let them go for it. That's the only type of academic institution that should be able to hide it's crapulent bigotry behind the 1st Amendment.

5. Kentucky--Unbridled Spirit
That's the newest state motto. Who knew the spirit is that of intolerance, hatred, exclusion.....
