Antonin Scalia shares the "proudest thing he's done on the bench"

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had some advice Wednesday for those who questioned his impartiality after he refused to recuse himself from a case involving his hunting buddy, Vice President Dick Cheney.

"For Pete's sake, if you can't trust your Supreme Court justice more than that, get a life," Scalia said.

Scalia, addressing an audience at the University of Connecticut's law school on Wednesday, said recusing himself from the 2004 case -which focused on an energy task force that Cheney led - would only have given fuel to newspaper editorial writers and other detractors who have said he is too close to the vice president.

"I think the proudest thing I have done on the bench is not allowed myself to be chased off that case," Scalia said. The case in question involved Cheney's request to keep private the details of closed-door White House strategy sessions that produced the administration's energy policy.

1. You know, no matter what the article says...
one can hardly keep from laughing while staying afloat in your sea of middle fingers.

2. His lack of insight into human bias proves his lack of judicial
...temperment. It's simple arrogance to turn his greatest defect into a virtue. This is the vanity of a purported "thought leader." Dwelling on partisan talking points.

7. Ah yes, a thought leader who talks like this:
"For Pete's sake, if you can't trust your Supreme Court justice more than that, get a life," Scalia said.

OK, so I'm supposed to "trust" some fat f&%$ who doesn't even have the sense to refrain from an obscene gesture after he walks out of church? I'm supposed to trust that?

And I should "get a life" because I don't trust him? Huh? This is Supreme Court-level logic?

Get the hell out of this country, Scalia. You DO NOT DESERVE to be an American. You are a shame to this country. Go. GO!!!

6. I thought it was when he cut a silent but deadly beer fart and
successfully blamed it on O'Conner.

Some say that was what was behind her retirement.

13. Yes, and we're all a like hapless "Jamie Lee Curtis" character ...
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 07:37 PM by ShortnFiery
In one of those seemingly endless number of horror flicks, "screaming our fool heads off" but yet doing nothing smart to help ourselves. The rest of the world community is like 'the audience' rooting for the people, someone other than an asylum inmate to step up and take charge.

... but alas, do I hear the Introduction to Skynard's Free Bird? :scared: :nuke:

*btw, the absolute WORST movie (no class, no redeeming factors, no likable characters) is "The Devil's oops  REJECTS." You'd have to tie me down and tape my eyes open to watch that again. But I kept thinking to myself, "Naw! It can't get more depraved and disgusting? Oops, yes it can!" :puke:
