Is Delay being seriously considered for OMB Director??
What are his qualifications? Is this another one of those "Tommy, you're doing a great job" nominations? What does he know about eocnomics? He was a bug man. An exterminator! And they are considering putting him in charge of our nation's economy? When will it ever end??

4. I think someone in the know called it "The Favors Department"

Office of Management and Budget. One of the most powerful money positions in the U.S. Government. It's almost as bad as putting a neo-con in charge of an IMF department.

12. Office of Management and Budget (link here)
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/

You can see why DeLay would be such a good fit:

OMB's Mission

OMB's predominant mission is to assist the President in overseeing the preparation of the federal budget and to supervise its administration in Executive Branch agencies. In helping to formulate the President's spending plans, OMB evaluates the effectiveness of agency programs, policies, and procedures, assesses competing funding demands among agencies, and sets funding priorities. OMB ensures that agency reports, rules, testimony, and proposed legislation are consistent with the President's Budget and with Administration policies.

In addition, OMB oversees and coordinates the Administration's procurement, financial management, information, and regulatory policies. In each of these areas, OMB's role is to help improve administrative management, to develop better performance measures and coordinating mechanisms, and to reduce any unnecessary burdens on the public.

2. No
Rove is smart enough to know that if Bush nominated Delay it would cause a huge outcry especially since he is indicted and facing trial. He also couldn't be confirmed for that post.

5. I agree
Bush also doesn't like DeLay. The Bugman isn't part of the priviledged class, and isn't a Bush insider (read loyalist). At most this is the administration raising the possibility just to thumb their noses at the Democrats. They aren't serious, and if they were, the Republicans in the senate wouldn't confirm him. The Repubs breathed a collective sigh of relief when he resigned, thinking it removed DeLay from being the poster boy for the culture of corruption. They don't want him back.

11. I agree...this is a setup so someone else slightly less repugnant can
get past the confirmation process.

7. Prolly the dog & pony show diversion de jour
No way would he have a chance at comfirmation to that post, especially in an election year.

Might be a lot of talk about it, but one needs to consider that the junta counts on emotional response from sensible people to dumb ass talking points to divert attention from some REAL problem we need to catch up on. ;)

10. I'd like to think it would be impossible, but Bush might end up
giving The Hammer a Freedom Medal, too.

Bush is way, way off course at this point.

He scares me.

13. Yuk. Forgot about those Freedom Medals
Yeah, we underestimate Bush's need to circle in the wagons with his conservative Christian base and that is the group DeLay is courting like crazy right now. DeLay is sort of the modern day Jerry Falwell for that group, don't you think?

14. 'Meant the Freedom Medals bit in painful sarcasm. Surely I feel DeLay
should be tarred & feathered, and definitely not rewarded.

I didn't like him even before any of the scandals, and even less afterward.

Bad, bad Tom DeLay.

9. That's what some of the reports have said, yes. Have no idea if they're
accurate.

Dear god I hope not.

It would be akin to having Al Capone as treasurer of your local PTA.
