Penn State College Republicans Plan "Catch Immigrant" Game

The College Republicans at Penn State University wanted to enter the debate about the nation's borders by playing a "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game."

People would be invited to "catch" group members wearing orange shirts symbolizing illegal aliens.

Amid the student outcry that ensued, they softened their plan to an illegal immigration awareness day in which leafleting and speech-making would let both sides air their views on immigration policies.

But that hasn't entirely erased the bad feeling over the campus event, now planned for Wednesday.

Yesterday, about 150 students and some faculty opposed to the idea rallied in the student union building. And the university itself joined the fray, urging the College Republicans to "re-think their approach as a step toward fostering civility on campus."

Rest of the student body and staff chase and capture College Republicans. They then turn captured College Republicans over to the Army and Marine Corps recruiters for inprocessing to boot camp and then to Iraq.

6. Recruit a College Republican Day

The game in which people find the College Republicans playing the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant" game and receive points for every College Republican who is successfully brought to the recruiting station and recruited into the US military. Don't worry. There's a recruiting station not far off campus right on College Avenue between the Wendy's and Cafe 210 West.

7. What's really bizarre about this is the overwhelming whiteness of PSU

Penn State must have the smallest population of Latino/Latinas that I've ever seen, anywhere. It's like a miracle to hear two people conversing in Spanish anywhere on campus outside the Spanish Department's offices.

I'd also guess that most college Republicans are drawn from equally white suburbs of Philly and Pittsburgh, or the even more white regions of Central PA. Most of the jokers literally have no personal experience with Latino/Latina people more generally, much less so-called "illegal immigrants." They are just jumping on the "current issue."

There was something funny on this recently. The head of the black caucus went to the CR's initial planning meeting on this. When the floor opened up for question, he said something like "You're a racist douchebag." The CR, trying to be clever a la Tucker Carlson, said "You have to ask a question," to which the head of the black caucus naturally responded "Why are you such a racist douchebag?" :rofl:
