when we all know violence only begets more violence. everytime a bloody revolution happened, the government taking over was often as bad or worse than the one in place before the revolution....
the not so hollywood movie selling way to solve a ditatorship problem, is often the peaceful 'noncooperative' way.
when he hands to train over to natalie to decide to drive into the building or not, that was the point I was shocked she went ahead and did it. I was almost sure the folks wearing the masks would get killed as a theme that violence only creates more violence, instead, we are supposed to feel good that destruction and ruthless killing is ok because it's the villians V was killing. I did get a chill up my spine though, with the folks in masks walking over the walls and no shots were fired and the policemen just stood there stunned by the #'s.. that's more like the kind of peaceful takeover I think we should contemplate at the white house....
bottom line, I think the writers of the matrix series are pissed off at all the gay persecution happening in today's society and they let their pissed off evil sides write this film. I'm sad they missed a huge opportunity with a few simple twists to advocate the only way to overthrow a government is peacefully, otherwise you've just replaced thugs for thugs...
and the detective is so not fitzgerald.. he's pretty much a "YES MAN" to the evil ruler, and only after extreme evidence, finds his backbone and his courage and even then, he's still chasing down the enemies of the state (V), never once questioning the big political picture even when he knows it's what killed his family, so he's more like colin powell than fitzgerald.. he knows what's right deep down but can't seem to do it.. he's more of the cop mentality, fight the bad guys and never question the superiors who are labelling the bad guys...
but overall, I was pretty upset with the movie as being one in a long string of movies that advocate senseless killing but justifying it for the right 'mission'. same thing with 24 (and I"m a huge fan don't get me wrong) but jack commits torture more than a guard at abu ghraib with the rationalization that it's required for stopping terrorism...
it seems the worst thing to come from 9/11 is america's lost her peaceful spirit... I just wish V had a few diff. plot twists, that's all...
