Sorry, folk, but Rumsfeld is serving a purpose -- he is playing "Bad Cop" to Bush's "Incompetent, but Well Meaning Good Cop" and will not be let go until such time as he is considered more of a "liability" than a blessing.
In the meantime, all of the problems in Iraq and Afghanistan can be "blamed" on Rumsfeld's mismanagement, leaving Bushy-Boy looking like an "innocent victim of improper trust" instead of the criminal cretin that he actually is. While people are screaming about the bad job Rumsfeld is doing, they AREN'T screaming about Bush.
Its a neat little diversionary tactic, and it works rather well. :shrug: Remember how much hullabaloo had to be raised before Brownie was FINALLY ousted from FEMA? And Brownie only had a few tapes showing Bush was a lying SOB -- THINK what blackmail material Rumsfeld has on him!!!
No, Rumsfeld is around until he gets bored; the opinions of the peasants are meaningless to these folks, and when he does leave, I'm willing to put money on the fact its a "health related" concern -- one that makes sure he is clear on how he'd better keep his mouth shut OR ELSE.
And don't forget: Cheney has an approval rating in the teens, but is still "working" for the people.
Or at least for somebody, even if it isn't US.
