Sen. Chuck Hagel said Monday he shares the lack of confidence in Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld separately voiced by six retired generals.

“The concern I’ve had is, at a very dangerous time, (the) secretary of defense does not command the respect and confidence of our men and women in uniform,” Hagel said.

“There is a real question about his capacity to lead at this critical time,” he said.

“I have had many conversations with military leaders about their concern about what’s happening at the Pentagon and with our force structure.”

1. I saw a debate on this issue on CNN that blew my mind.

The argument against him (Rumsfeld) was really strong. The counter argument was that its "innapropriate to talk about changing the secretary of defense in a time of war", repeated like a mantra. It always reminds me of John Steward sarcasticly yelling "we can't pull ver now and look at a map, can't you see we're LOST!" The truth is if we have an incompetant SECDEF the BEST time to change him is in the middle of a war!!!

8. Since it's endless war by definition, we can never change them, right?

There will be no end to the war on terrorism; there's no capital to capture and no hand to force to sign a document. As such, we are at continual war, and any concessions we all make "for the duration" ARE FOREVER.

So if greedy assholes start an elective war and claim that it's unwise to remove them due to the grave nature of the war, remind them that it's all their simpering little plot to suck pity and demand unquestioned control FOREVER.

Tough guys snivelling for sympathy are beyond disgusting.

5. No disputing it--Rummy

should go. But just which person has the backbone to take the Secretary of Defense position:
Two have been mentioned. One, of course is J. Lieberman. A Democratic senator, his appointment means a vacancy in his current position, of course. The other often-mentioned possibility is the current undersecretary, Gordon England. G.E. was the first undersecretary of the Dept. of Homeland Security and was Secy. of the Navy. Who would the military prefer? Who would military personnel respect? Are there other candidates? Remember, whoever takes Rummy's spot gets two years and starts in the middle of the book with the chapters about incompetence and unnecessary war. An ugly job, for sure. Maybe we should just let the Joint Chiefs do their military thing and forget about a Secy. of Defense for the balance of the BFEE administration.

9. HAGEL MORE SCAREY THAN BUSH

I'm trying to figure if the trilateral commission has already chosen our next president as Chuck Hagel.
Otherwise, why would he continue to criticize Bush/Cheney when he has been part of their group all along.

SOME FACTS ABOUT MR. HAGEL.

He owns at leats a $5M interest in a company called McCarthy group that holds an undisclosed large
share of ES&S Voting Machine company. He was also their former CEO. There are strong ties via
the aforementioned McCarthy Group to Diebold as well as Diebold technology in Nebrashka.

He won by 54% in 1996 when Nebraska (like Georgia in 2002 was solidly Democratic for 132 years), he
won against a popular candidate, Ben Nelson a democrat so popular he won a seat as senator again in 2000 (note to
self, sometimes when rigging candidates, let the bad guys into office now and then so it doesn't look
like a cakewalk)..... In 2000 Hagel won a senate seat again by the largest margin victory ever in history
of Nebraska 83%.

Hagel is a part of the Trilateral Commission, Bilderburg society, German parents...
Belongs to Alfalfa club, described as follows:

but I do like that he beats up on this administration, but I think that's a sign that he know's he'll rig himself into office and is not afraid of the Bush Administration...
