Senior Iranian aide irks Washington with US visit

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As the United States tries to push other nations to impose a travel ban on Iranian government officials over Tehran's nuclear program, a senior Iranian official has created embarrassment in Washington by slipping into the country for a visit this month.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said on Tuesday he had heard that Mohammad Nahavandian, a senior aide to Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, was in Washington but he had not met U.S. officials and his presence was being looked into.

"It's a matter of interest for us and if I have any other information to share on the matter today or in the days ahead, I'll do so," McCormack told reporters.

Nahavandian's successful entry into the United States is embarrassing for Washington, which is pushing hard for other countries to impose travel restrictions on Iranian officials in talks in Moscow this week.

2. I said before that the world was just going to go around us.
Sort of funny and it is as if China and Iran have sort of mooned Bush. Now this should make him have a fit.

3. Yeah, except I'm worried what form that "fit" will take
Everyone is waking up to the fact that he's delusional and cruel ... and when you back that kind of character into a corner, it's not pretty.

4. Well we knew that was a worry before he ran. Little late to------
get to up tight about it now. To not be called a wimp you can see where he has put this country already. I think things will get worse in the next 3 years as he will try to get every thing he thinks he is right about through Congress or just by- pass congress. Now is the time to ride Congress as those guys are worried about getting in and will drop Bush like a hot potato. Dem. need people who are out their running on taking the goodies away from Congressmen also. We the people should be in the streets with the flags turned over.
