The Democrats are not looking for revenge or justice...
They simply want to regain power and to implement good government once again. They have no desire to continue the partisan politics that we now find ourselves shrouded with. They do not wish to impeach or censure Bush or Cheney - they only want to remove them. If laws were broken, we need to put that behind us and move forward. We need to unite this nation and impeachment talk or censure talk will only further divide us. Is this the Democratic Party that you support?

1. I've heard some people say
they were reluctant to vote democrat because they would just waste the next 2 years with impeachment/censure proceedings when we have important problems to solve. I personally think impeachment would look like revenge for Clinton.

3. fine - no impeachment - merely open the records and turn them all over to
the HAGUE.

Let the world judge them.

(and no - this "live & let live, can't dwell on the past, must look forward. Forgive" etc BS is NOT worthy of my support. Laws were broken, people were slaughtered, democracy is based on the rule of LAW, and LAW demands that ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.)

4. I see an endless tit for tat unless somebody crawls off the schoolyard
and gets busy just running the damn country.

Meanwhile, it will be Fitz, not the Dems, who ultimately gets to the bottom of who is guilty and innocent. It is best left up to a non-partisan to do that, I reckon.

Brilliant strategy.
Let Fitz take on the bastards.

Those itching for a reckoning - aren't we all on some level? - will surely witness the culprits getting what's coming to them with Fitz on their tails.

And then the Dems can go about the business of undoing all the harm done to America at the hands of the Republican Congress and BushCo.

9. Stomp them all, none left like those criminals who came out of
the woodwork after Watergate and Iran-Contra. Let us take a lesson from the "bug man" and wipe the slate clean - prosecute all these criminals?

13. There is a chain of Republican hostility toward basic democratic
and legal principles running from Nixon through Reagan to the present cabal that must be excised from our body politic. We didn't send Nixon to jail. We didn't hold Reagan accountable for Iran-Contra. Each time they have come back bolder and meaner. If we want to continue to have the republic we must find a way to inoculate ourselves from this dangerous disease. The patriots of the revolution sent the remaining loyalists packing to Canada. I doubt that Canada would accept these modern crooks, but somehow their disproportionate influence and access to power must be permanently broken. Otherwise, they will continue to corrupt and destroy the functioning of constitutional democratic government without regard to the outcome of honest elections and legal processes.

20. Wow, that was WELL SAID!
We didn't send Nixon to jail. We didn't hold Reagan accountable for Iran-Contra. Each time they have come back bolder and meaner.

In many ways, it is quite reminiscent of the death-spiral of the Roman Republic.

From Marius to Sulla to Crassus to Caesar. Every time the Republic defended itself, yet failed to purge the disease, the Imperium got closer with every "next round" until the Republic fell and was never seen again.

Don't kid yourself, these modern Caesars would rather see this country burn down than relinquish THEIR Empire (it sure doesn't belong to the Imperial Subjects of Amerika anymore...if it ever did).

I have always said, if we every get even remotely close to what you suggest, the second 9-11/Reichstag will be nuclear, biological or chemical (like that Fort Detrick CIA Anthrax sent to Democrats and Librul Media but multiplied by 1000X).

And then the Halliburton Homeland Detention Camps will fill.

I want my country back, but I also want its citizens to know what these bastards really did. Their punishment will be the absolute shunning of them that WILL COME once the truth gets out.

12. Very well said. I totally agree.
Cons love to accuse us of "hatred" and "wanting revenge." It's part of what they do - demonize the opponent. All I want is a country with some principles.

14. What are we without justice?
So far the Bush administration is highly suspect of a number of things that are potentially very damaging to our system of government (illegal wire-tapping, vengeful information leaking, etc.) They have trashed our foreign relations by undermining the U.N. and initiating a preemptive war on shaky pretenses. If laws were broken, then justice must be served in order to move forward, to secure that there will not be precedent for unpunished activity in the whitehouse. If we don't challenge Bush's abuse of Executive Power, we take one step closer to dictatorship.

The deciding factor for me was the news clip of Bush claiming that he is the 'decider.' That attitude is a blatant disregard for the people of this country, and is damaging to the spirit of democracy. To preserve our rights, we have to take a firm stand when those rights are violated.

It's a bad sign for America that this necessary action should do anything but unite those Americans who would stand up for their rights and freedoms, and for the principle that no man is above the law.

21. Welcome to DU, No New War
:toast: :toast:

Come on in and have a

Welcome to the home (one of them anyway) of the Old American Republic. It's hurt and bleeding, but it isn't dead yet.

It is our job, as patriots and as Americans, to see that it is restored to health and vigor, so that future generations can breathe free once again.

FISA and the 4th Amendment, systemic sanctioned and planned violations of the Geneval Conventions (a treaty), impairing national intelligence assets for political gain, and gross incompetence on just about everything this guy touched (i dont care if the last one is not a high crime or misdemeanor, it is indicia of a lack of capacity to serve as president)doesn't just merit impeachment, it requires it. I probably missed numerous other grounds.

Nixon did nothing compared to this clown, and I do not think I am exaggerting.

16. "Revenge" is unbecoming, but punishment...
...is part of lawfulness.

Why should these criminals get a free pass? As a reward for non-stop abuse of power?

It's farcical the standard of non-partisanship that the Democrats are asked to measure up to.

It's been scorched earth with these guys for years. At every turn, the GOP has put its thumb on the scale and turned the knife, and then they expect us to act like everything's even-steven!?

All that said, I'll reiterate that we shouldn't act vengeful or gleeful as these guys get their comeuppance. But get it they should.

18. Democrats have an OBLIGATION
to the Constitution to challenge the Bushist theories of the Unitary Executive in an open court of law.

This precedent must be rebuked and squashed before future presidents try to use it to justify their crimes.

19. Sorry, I cannot take the high road. I do wish to impeach or censure
Bush and Cheny. I don't want any President or VP to think that they are above the law.

Being a middleton hasn't gotten us anywhere in the past, nor will it get us anywhere in the future.

When laws are broken and lives are lost justice must be served. If we think it is better or more "politically correct" or "above" seeking justice, then why have laws? Why put someone in jail for petty theft, while our President and VP (and others) have broken laws causing the deaths of our young men and women and many innocent people in Iraq.

If the International community sees us handle these goons with white gloves, we will never again be respected in my lifetime. AND I wouldn't blame them either. If this is the Democratic Parties position, then the Democratic Party has sold out.

22. If we let them get away with their crimes, they will commit them again.
Our country, our democratic system, cannot withstand another fascist assault of this nature.

An extensive Congressional investigation of the 2000 election must be undertaken. If Congress finds that bu*h came to power through planned electoral fraud, then they should pass an Act of Congress declaring that all political appointments, including appointments to the Supreme Court and other federal judiciary appointments, are invalid, and all persons appointed by bu*h will be removed from their positions, in the interest of national security.

Everything that these crooks have done should be thoroughly investigated. Anyone found to have committed a crime should be brought to justice and barred from ever holding political office.

Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 09:55 PM by ldf
if the democratic leadership does not address the injustices done to this country by the republicans AND republican-lite democrats, then they are a major part of the problem.

in that case, i hope the people take power into their own hands and every single one who has helped to bring about this fiasco, and refuses to address it, ALL of them, live in fear, every day, for the rest of their lives.

there should be no walled, gated community where they could live in peace.

if nothing is done, it will occur again, and THAT is completely unacceptable.
