The most depressing thing about the Dems regaining the Government
in '06 and '08 is this:

I was reading another thread about what the priorities of the Democratic government should be if they were to take power in '06 and the presidency in '08 over here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2576673

I think if we get the government back we'll hopefully do both (proceed with impeachment and do our best to correct the many mistakes made in the last 5 years both domestic and foreign). However, by the time BushCo is in jail and we've left Iraq, the public will be so fatigued with massive changes to the status quo that we will no longer have the support and momentum necessary to do away with other important things like the patriot act and many other assaults on our civil liberties. Therefore, those laws will persist, and the next Republican president can come along and build upon the Big Brother foundation left for him by Bush and company.

There is no stopping the massive creep that is the Federal government. I guess I'm really just saying that the last 6 years has damaged the fabric of our democracy beyond repair, and there is nothing we can do about it (short of the Revolution, which i'm not advocating for ;)) (at least not yet :D)

and That is the most depressing thing about the possibility of the Dems regaining the Government in '06 and '08

1. Good point
The removal of Nixon and the end of the Vietnam war was followed not be a period of progressive reform but by the ascendancy of the Me Generation.

Everybody consider yourselves warned.

2. Alas, not all Democrats are civil libertarians.
We have to be realistic about that. There isn't a Democratic faction that hates civil liberty, the way the religious right does. But there are many for whom civil liberty either isn't that large an issue, or who are willing to sacrifice it to other issues. That was one of my chief complaints about Clinton. Either one, as it turns out.

3. Buck up buckey!
Those of us old enough to have seen this happen before, think that this is just part of an evolution. Yeah, every generation produces stupid people, but...communication has changed. In the old days, before radio and telivision, it might take months, or years, before you heard an opinion, other than what the "rueling elite" wanted you to hear. Today, you can hear every viewpoint known to man in a few clicks of your mouse! Take advantasge of the infornation and form your own opinion.

4. just sayin' the same thing to a friend today
we could replace the whole damn works with good democrats and it would still take years to get out of debt and get the country back on the right track. I'm tired of us being General Dynamic's bootlickers, Halliburton's whores, Exxon's lackeys. The response to 9/11 never had to be like this. Bush, will be tarred and feathered by history books, that's my only consolation.

5. Impeach Bush and you get Dick Cheney. Investigate war profiteering first.
Nail Halliburton to the wall!

6. "short of the Revolution, which i'm not advocating for"
exactly how many dead men, woman, and children does it take for somebody to live up to their civic duty to overthrow this government?

Stupid middle class and the got mine mentality. The middle class are just corporate enablers.

Take back your government or take the blame!

10. When?
All I'm saying is how much will we take. I don't believe in violence, there are many way to revolt. I do not buy anything that is not absolutely necessary and I try to find the "best" company to give my money to when I have to buy anything. I try to tell anyone who will listen to do al they can to overthrow the corporations but everyone just says "You talk about depressing stuff." I've alienated almost everyone who knows me because I just can't stop advocating for the overthrow of capitalism. No one wants to listen, everyone is happy in their cute little house with their new clothes. No one sees that by living the way that we do we are causing unmeasurable suffering to millions of people around the world.

I pretty sure your not like that just judging by your avatar but I just need to vent so just ignore me.

:toast:

12. it's cool man
i've alienated quite a few people at my work actually. Especially when I wear my "petrolecide" T-shirt

and I have another one that is one a fake bathroom sign in which the stick figure male is holding a stick figure gun to another one's head, with "Capitalism" written above it. Can't find an image of it, but it's great :D

You picked the right guy to rant to.
