This quote came up during a discussion regarding the medicare prescription drug plan a couple months ago...
The Republican Party is in control of the government and you are trying to pin these big spending programs on democrats? How long has your party controlled the House of Reps where spending bills originate? Admit it- the Republicans talk the talk of cutting entitlement programs but DO NOT HAVE THE BALLS to cut off a potential voter even if the rank and file is clamoring to cut off these kids. And instead of raising taxes on millionaires to pay for a "moral war on oppressive regimes", we annually provide hundreds of billions in interest to oppressive nations like Saudi Arabia (where they grow terrorists) and totalitarian communist China. How much interest do we pay each year to these nations due to borrowing by Republican presidents? And few Republicans complain. So, through bond issuance, we finance Saudi princes and help China get out of poverty by injecting billions upon billions into their economy (which they see as helping them get closer to true communism- the ability to provide for all at an equitable level), and barely a peep- no Republicans are too busy whining about food stamps and free lunch for elementary school kids in their own country. What was it Bush said today- culture of life?
''I urge all those who honor Terri Schiavo to continue to work to build a culture of life where all Americans are welcomed and valued and protected"
Yeah, but cut off their food and shelter (which is mostly what entitlements provide). What a joke!
The problem many Dems have with Bush's plan is that it is a corporate give away. He committed to spend half a trillion dollars without any concern for the cost of these drugs. He did not or did not plan to NEGOTIATE the prices of these drugs. He promised the drug companies govt money and they donated to his campaign coffers. That's exactly the real deal there.

Value life...until it costs money.
Wage war...but don't pay for it now.
Oppose govt funding in speeches to your base...and support it on appropriations day.
That's what you get with the Republican Party for the last ten years.
