Why is it all about 'McLellan's credibility'? Isn't he nothing more than
a tape recorder with a functional 'PLAY' button?

His credibility is exactly what they tell him ... or tell him to say.

1. Agree totally, Husb2Sparkly. McClellan made the very poor
judgment to continue in that role, but my strong hunch is that Mr. Rove was pulling all the strings behind the curtain.

McClellan would redeem himself if he went to work for someone other than the Republcian Party next time.

3. I hope they don't think a new idiot will be any more credible,
spouting the same old lies.

4. Dear bushco,
Here is something everyone in America knows... Ari got up there and told lies, Snotty got up there and told lies and we all know that your next guy is going to get up there and tell lies. Every body in the world knows it. You're not fooling anyone any more.

5. yep, he's a mouthpiece and nothing more....

That anyone would expect him to have "credibility" separate from that of the administration that gives him his script is surprising. Actually, he is something more than just a mouthpiece, now that I think about it-- his job includes helping to shape the information that gets out of the WH, so he's a participant, not just a tape recorder. He helps write the script. Still, the point remains-- the WH press officer is NOT charged with anything approaching independent journalism or objective reporting. He does not serve the public interest.

6. It doesn't excuse his..
... lying ass at all. He knew he was lying, and he lied with skill and ardor.

If he had any integrity, he would have bailed long ago.

8. I agree...
... he was asked to leave - hence the "I gave it my all, I gave you my all" comment.

But, if he had any integrity, he would have left long ago.
