Bartlett lie: 'No one ever said the war would result in cheaper gas'
Appearing yesterday afternoon on MSNBC’s Hardball, White House Counselor Dan Barlett adamantly denied that anyone in the administration claimed that the Iraq war would lead to lower gas prices.
As Matthews noted later in the broadcast, Laurence Lindsey – President Bush’s senior economic advisor at the time — argued in 2002 that the Iraq war would increase oil supplies and lower prices. From the Washington Times, 9/19/02:
“The key issue is oil, and a regime change in Iraq would facilitate an increase in world oil, which would drive down oil prices, giving the U.S. economy an added boost."

1. I'm surprised to see this:
I assumed that this was one of those arguments that the WH let shills in the right wing media make for them. But there it is, in black and white.

Turns out the war was negative net for energy, given what we burned up to make it and we can't get the oil fields of Iraq on line. Worst war for oil EVER!

5. I saw that and Tweety let him get away with it.
He should have confronted him with the information immediately.

6. It’s easy to cover up a few lies,
but when you have a whole portfolio of them , it’s only a matter of time before they trip up.

I’ll give Matthews some credit for his “go on the record” probe.

Baby steps.
