1. When my boss tells me Bush is nuts for even thinking of nuking Iran,
I think I may have company in the streets.

3. I'm more concerned what the rest of the world will think
if Bush nukes Iran. That is---only if we and the rest of the world survive.

It will be the biggest blunder in world history. We will become a third world country instantaneously.

4. The usual sheep will bleep with delight until...
Iran attacks the oil loading facilities of Saudi Arabia and chokes off the Strait of Hormuz, that's when gasoline prices will hit the stratosphere and the sheep will freak out.

6. I really have no idea
A nuclear strike is so unprecedented it would be hard to say.

When Truman hit Japan in 1945, I have often wondered if he knew what he had or if he thought that thing was just a bigger and better firebomb, like the hundreds that were dropped on Dresden. It would have been very difficult in 1945 for one to think in terms of nuclear vs. conventional weapons. And that Bomb was a tinker toy compared to today's nukes.

Are people aware of what we are talking about? At least there was no question about Japan being a threat. We were already at war with Japan and had been for over three and half years. The issue now is whether Iran should be permitted to have a nuclear weapon, but they are still five to ten years away from building one. There is no urgency to do anything now. A nuclear strike would be way out of proportion to the threat now posed.

7. I am convinced that the nuke business is so that when they
attack Iran with conventional munitions the first reaction will be relief that they didn't nuke them.

10. None of the above.
Even if Bu$h sends in one bomber with one 500 pound "snake" warhead (conventional HE), here is what will happen. As a former military man, and a student of history, I see parallels between any attack on Iran (nuke or conventional) and the French fiasco at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Iran controls the high ground above the Persian Gulf .. miles and miles and miles of high ground, including the Straits of Hormuz. The relatively small, shallow Persian Gulf could very well become Mr. Bush's Dien Bien Phu when, after the first bomb is dropped in Iran, that state unleashes the hell-fire of its many batteries of Russian-built Sunburn cruise missiles (2.1 Mach!) against the US Navy fleet in the Persian Gulf. The fleet would be ducks in a bathtub, and any help from the Navy's Indian Ocean fleets would be in air support only. Thousands of US sailors could perish in one bloody barrage. Like Col. Pirouth proved at Dien Bien Phu, counter-battery fire would be essentially useless against Iran's dug-in mountain missile sites.

13. Thanks for the info. It's not something I want to see.
My son has a very good friend in the Navy and my wife has nephews in the reserve. They might all be around the Persian Gulf if there is an attack.

12. Talking on non political forums
unfortunately the overwhelming feeling is Nuke them, who cares. or "they are mini nukes" or "they are gonna have a nuke in 16 days" etc. These people are woefully uninformed and some are semi-intelligent people. They really believe this stuff. They believe you can be "tactical" with a nuke and for some unknown reason believe that Iran has done something wrong. Sorry I cant be so optimistic, they have seceded in creating the "them" mantra and unfortunately no one seems to give a shit about them. Very troubling and I feel like a lone voice in the woods. No one cares to listen to the truth. :(

If it shows Iran is years away from a bomb, it blows the winds right out of Bush's Iran war wishes.

and the chickens start coming home to roost.

“WASHINGTON — Americans are divided over the prospect of U.S. military action against Iran if the government in Tehran continues to pursue nuclear technology — and a majority do not trust President Bush to make the "right decision" on that issue, a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

Asked whether they would support military action if Iran continued to produce material that could be used to develop nuclear weapons, 48% of the poll's respondents, or almost half, said yes; 40% said no.

If Bush were to order military action, most respondents said they would support air strikes against Iranian targets, and about one in four said they would support the use of American ground troops in Iran.”

21. I hope you're right...I also hope we never reach that situation
I have learned though over the many, many years and conflicts to never-ever underestimate the power of the war propaganda machine and their compliant media lapdogs.

Here is an example - and I am sure this is just the beginning:

If the Generals (retired...and no doubt in contact with "active" ones) REFUSE to do so...Bunnypants is checkmated.
