Farewell to DU, fight the good fight!

I have not posted anything for several months on the DU due to illness. I have lung cancer that has spread to the liver, kidney and adrenal gland and had no idea that I was even ill. I have never smoked, worked near asbestos, been exposed to second-hand smoke on a regular basis etc, etc. So in January when I was taken to the ER with abdominal pain this was quite a shock.

I had been heading up an activist e-mail group and have sent reams of letters to our Senators and Congressional Reps as well as signed numerous online petitions for various groups. My energy level at this point is very low and I need every bit of strength I have to fight the cancer so fighting the good fight for the future of our nation has to be turned over to you my fellow DU supporters!

My family has organized a team for our local chapter of the American Cancer Society - Relay for Life as it has given them something positive on which to focus to effect change regarding my illness. They have set their goal at 20,000.00 which is huge but I have always believed in thinking big.

Anyway thank you to all that have responded to my posts over the past year and a half and for all those that wrote letters when I asked for a call to action to block the certification of the election results. I miss being involved and hope to again take up the good fight with you. God bless you all and thank you for making me feel that we are making a difference whether or not the mass media, the government or the powers that be want to acknowledge our efforts or not. We are not alone and we can turn our great nation around to reflect the real spirit of the people.

You may want to do some advocacy with the American Cancer Society. In my state, they often argue against funds for lung cancer research, they feel its 100% preventable. We know otherwise, don't we. Make a point of asking them how much money they're devoting to lung cancer research.

I wish I noticed your screen name sooner but thanks for your efforts regarding fair elections and any other activism that you participated in/ intiated etc. Just by reading this and the strength, dignity and courage you display I am very impressed and inspired by you. I am sending you healing vibes and I look forward to when you can come back and fight again with us.

Also, I want to point out that radon is an often overlooked cause of cancer. I bought a house last year and had it tested for radon as part of that process. The results were 100 times the level deemed as safe. The sellers paid for an installed a system for radon removal and we have tested it again ( and plan to annually) and it is now at safe levels. It is the cause of much lung cancer, especially the unexplained kind. The previous owners all 3 parents and a daughter died of lung cancer. A person living in the house behind ours was diagnosed with lung cancer and now is living with one lung. Most people either don't know about radon or if they do they disbelieve the science that considers it a threat. My mother currently is going through chemo therapy for uterine cancer so I in no way want to tell you this to blame you or increase your pain or anything like that. I know what an amazing challenge this can be. I am only writing this for you to consider it a possibility, allay confusion as to how this happened to you, and most of all to help whoever lives with you. If you can have your home tested, any of you reading this even, test it and respond to the results. Anyway, thanks for posting this, fighting for all of us in the past and I wish you healing and peace. :hug:

that about a week ago I finally got a call back from the American Cancer Society here in Vegas to volunteer. I am so happy about that. I will be working with patients at UMC hospital here in Vegas and I will also be giving rides to patients who don't have a car to their doctors appointments and chemo appointments. I was appalled to hear some patients have to ride the bus to get to their chemo sessions.

I cannot and will not sit back anymore.

I know of this organization and I have no intention of giving up. My cancer has been a mystery, no one can figure how I got it or why which makes me an atypical, I had to laugh, I have been called "atypical" my whole life so why should this be any different. I also feel my recovery will be atypical. I know the odds but I also know that may people have been cured with no explanation through faith, positive thinking and many other undocumentable avenues.
