Losing Joe-mentum

In other polling news (prez at 33%), Joe Lieberman's (D-CT) numbers are tanking as he enters a tough primary against Ned Lamont.

Dems and liberals, consistently disappointed by Lieberman's cozying up to the president, lending a veneer of bipartisanship to the most destructive policies, and parroting of right wing talking points, are sending a message. (Some speculate that the Democrat mentioned in Seymour Hersh's article on nuking Iran is wrong-way Joe)

Among Liberals:

(3/13/06) 49% approve, 41% disapprove, 10% undecided

(4/10/06) 46% approve, 49% disapprove, 5% undecided

Among Democrats:

(3/13/06) 56% approve, 35% disapprove, 8% undecided

(4/10/06) 54% approve, 41% disapprove, 5% undecided

ctblogger predicts a Lieberman independent run if Lamont gets over 30% in the primary...

But more important than the winner or loser in this single race is the message that disloyalty won't be tolerated just because you have a "D" next to your name... (ConnecticutBlog)

5. If Joe were "bipartisan", he'd be 50% better than he is now.

He's a republican, and not a particularly moderate one. He has supported the president because he is president since he became president. When do we see him side with democrats? Can't we trade him for Olympia Snowe?

hurting the Democratic Party. If he does that, we will all know, without doubt or caveat, that Lieberman is a supporter of the Republican Party. If he is a true Democrat, he will support the nominee of his party. We'll see...

11. Republicans who switch to Dems have to do it 6 monts before the primary

date, so it's too late for them to switch now.

Independents can switch up to the day of the primary and based on the Survey USA poll, Lieberman is losing Indies a bit faster than Democrats.

The Republicans running for senate are Bush clones, for example, they favor Social Security privatization, which is strongly opposed by CT citizens, and they favor strong legislation against illegal immigrants.

Lieberman, if he runs Independent, may actually split the Republican vote more than the Democratic one. Lieberman polls 70% with Repukes. He's polling 54% among Democrats.

12. What if Rumsfeld is forced out, or resigns in a huff, and Bush

appoints Lieberman as his replacement?

This has been talked up for over a year, at least.

The Republican Governor of Connecticut would likely appoint a Republican to replace Joe and Lamont would likely be the Democrats' nominee.

In blue Connecticut, how would that play out, I wonder.
