We are not surprised.

Justice Department OKs Ga. Voter ID Law
The Associated Press
Friday, April 21, 2006; 2:48 PM

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Justice Department gave its approval Friday to a Georgia law requiring voters to show a photo ID at the polls.

Supporters _ including Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue, who signed the measure earlier this year _ say it is needed to crack down on voter fraud. Opponents say it unfairly discriminates against minorities, the poor and the elderly, who are less likely to have a driver's license.

Under the law, voters who do not have a license can get a state-issued photo ID for free.

The law makes Georgia one of seven states to require photo identification at the polls.

Under federal law, changes in election procedures in the South and other parts of the country with a history of discrimination require Justice Department approval.

The Justice Department decision came in a letter from John Tanner, chief of the voting rights section.

1. Or, they can get a barcode on their hand or forehead..
According to the Scriptures, the "mark of the beast" is received on the right hand or forehead. With modern technology, it is very possible that this mark may be directly linked with a computer chip. But regardless if it is or isn't, everyone who is living immediately before the return of Christ will be forced to take this mark in order to buy or sell anything:

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666" (Rev. 13:16-18).

But this mark, which will be universally issued around the entire world, MUST NOT be received under any circumstances, even by Christians! Scripture goes on to say:

"A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: 'If ANYONE worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name. This calls for patient endurance on the part of THE SAINTS who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus' " (Rev. 14:9-12).

2. I had 2 take a class 2 be a poll worker
before the April 11th election here in OC, CA. The instructor was quite clear that we DO NOT ask 2 see ID - no driver's license, no picture ID - nothing. He said it is illegal.

I had no idea it was legal in the south.

Federal lawsuit filed against Georgia voter photo ID law
Jeannie Shawl at 1:52 PM ET

Several rights groups and two African-American registered Georgia voters have filed a lawsuit challenging a Georgia law that requires voters to show government-issued photo identification at the polls. The plaintiffs - including Common Cause/Georgia, the League of Women Voters of Georgia, the NAACP, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus - are seeking to have the law declared unconstitutional on the grounds that it "imposes an unauthorized, unnecessary and undue burden on the fundamental right to vote" in violation of the Georgia and US constitutions and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. According to plaintiffs' lawyers, the law discriminates against minorities, the elderly, poor and disabled and the $20 fee to obtain state identification is an unconstitutional poll tax. The US Department of Justice in August approved the Georgia law , as is required under the 1965 Voting Rights Act for all changes in voting requirements in states with a history of suppressing minority votes. Though DOJ approval is meant to ensure that the changes do not have a discriminatory purpose or effect, it does not prevent a subsequent court challenge. Three other states also require voters to show photo identification, but Georgia is the only state to require that the ID be government-issued.

4. Why does this unfairly discriminate?
Drivers license or Free state ID. I have to show that when I buy alcohol, cash a check etc. I guess I'm missing the point here...

5. You're poor, working 60 hours a week
When are you going to go down and get your photo taken for your "free" state ID?

When are you going to get the time off?

How are you going to get there if you don't have a car?

The "free" state ID is too burdensome to be effective. This is a just a ruse to take away rights from those least able to defend themselves.

7. Especially when there are only
about 60 drivers license stations for 149 counties. IIRC there's only one or two in metro Atlanta, population roughly 4 million. A few years back there were many more DL stations -- Gov. Perdue closed most of them.

When I moved to metro Atlanta in '93 and registered to vote, there was a space on the form for race. I left it blank; they sent it back. So I wrote "human" (the only legitimate answer) and sent it back -- they sent it back again.
