1. Olberman just said the crowds made georgie change his plans
(and probably his pants, as well) and instead of making the planned speech, he went straight to George Shulz' house for a planned dinner.

2. The thing that disgusts me most about this...
...is "major Bush contributor" John Chambers.

I WORKED for Cisco Systems. I was one of the 8500 people laid off in 2001.

I've seen BOTH faces of John Chambers. The one that's shown on the covers of magazines and appears in soft-spoken interviews ISN'T the REAL one.

The man's a BASTARD. After the Cisco layoffs he bitched in an interview about the people who showed up for work at 8 AM and left at 5 PM. He was one of the first people to jump on the India outsourcing bandwagon with both feet, and Cisco uses L. Ron Hubbard's "management principles"...anyone who doesn't believe this can Google it. A Cisco manager got busted in the press a few years ago for singing the praises of L. Ron...

The top 5% are REWARDED, the bottom 5% are CRUCIFIED, and everyone else in the middle is encouraged to stab the guy next to him so they don't end up in the BOTTOM group.

6. My husband was a victim of the great IT layoff of '01. How many others
were involved? Our income level dropped off precipitously.

7. At Cisco, the body count was 8500.
I attended a meeting about two months prior to the layoffs in which a department director openly mocked employees at competitor Juniper Systems, who had just been laid off. He encouraged those in attendance to laugh along with him, and swore that Cisco WOULD...NOT...BE...HAVING...LAYOFFS.

Of course, he KNEW that the layoffs were coming.

And they DID.

John Chambers is nothing more than Larry Ellison wearing a mask.

14. Count me in...
I worked at an IT testing firm they laid off about 120 of us. My current salary is still about 30% down. I hit another layoff in 2003. I've missed alomst a year's salary since 2001. In 2000, when we re-fi'd my mortgage we took an insurance policy against loss of salary due to illness or layoff, that's what saved me from being homeless. The stress put the marriage over the tipping point. etc. etc.

8. Not close.
Those photos show people lined along Tasman Drive. Cisco's buildings have a pretty good buffer zone between the street and the front door.
