Sick of Bush bashing

As a lifelong Democrat, I am tired of reading all the anti-Bush letters the Post-Gazette prints. A case in point is <I removed person's name>'s April 11 letter, "Blood on His Hands." He states, "I thought the most embarrassing moment of his presidency was the seven minutes of inaction on 9/11 when he was told the United States was under attack."

Any astute observer -- that leaves out most Democrats -- knows what went on in those seven minutes.

Mr. Bush, our president, was demonstrating savoir-faire and, more to the point, sang-froid -- calmness amid trying circumstances, coolness, composure, self-possession, imperturbability. He did not panic.

<I removed person's name>'s last paragraph states, "George W. Bush must accept the fact that he has the blood of more than 2,300 young American soldiers on his hands." But he overlooks the fact that ex-president Bill Clinton has the blood of almost 3,000 9/11 victims on his hands.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that it was a Freeper pretending to be a Democrat. However, I met many "Democrats" like him while working on the Kerry/Edward campaign. I really wish that they'd just switch parties and get it over with, because, if they haven't awakened by now, there's no hope that they're ever going to vote Democratic in the future, in my opinion, regardless of their official party affilliation.

Retired union workers, predominantly Catholic. They'll probably start singing a different tune when they begin to lose their pension benefits and health care. Many are members of the "I've got mine so screw you" school of thought.

Otherwise, they tend to be somewhat racist and sexist. Time and again you'll drive through their neighborhoods and see yard signs for the local Dem mayor, but Repub signs for state and federal candidates.
