WASHINGTON, April 21 (Reuters) - Administration insider Carlos Gutierrez has emerged
as a potential candidate to replace U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow, who is widely
expected to leave his post in the next couple of months.
Gutierrez, President George W. Bush's Commerce secretary since February 2005, is seen
within the administration as a "creative, fresh thinker" who would bring business acumen
to the Treasury job, one former administration official said.
A Gutierrez candidacy might be a long-shot one since several Republicans have said the Bush
administration wants a Wall Street figure to help boost the Treasury chief's profile.

of the Treasury had dwindled under this administration.
