Clark and Cleland at Little Rock veterans memorial today

According to an AP report:

LITTLE ROCK -- Former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia, who lost both legs and an arm in the Vietnam War, on Saturday blasted the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq as immoral.

Cleland and retired Gen. Wesley Clark appeared together at the Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the state Capitol as part of a tribute to residents of the state who served in the military. The event was part of the Arkansas Young Democrats state convention, being held at the Arkansas Education Association state headquarters across the street from the Capitol.

"It is immoral to abuse the good nature of our young people, and send them back and back and back (into combat) ... with no strategy to win, and no strategy to end" the war, Cleland said.

After Cleland's short speech, Clark _ an Arkansas native who sought the Democratic Party's nomination for president in 2004 _ returned to the microphone briefly, turning to cast his eyes on the names of the Arkansans who died in Vietnam.

"I can't help but look at the names on this wall and know, Max, you and I, there but for the grace of God ..." He left the sentence unfinished.

This is Arkansas' big Democratic weekend. Max Cleland was also the Keynote speaker at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner tonight. Wes Clark was the emcee. Both were wonderful! Arkansas will be solid blue in '06! We Arkansas Dems are fired up to WIN!

.... and I get really weepy when I think of the shit they did to him in Georgia .... for what? Some schmuck named Saxby Chambliss.

I think of Max with John Kerry, wall to wall in the 04 race.

I think of Max, in his wheelie, at the gate to The Pig Farm in Crawdad, in the hot sun, delivering a letter to King Shitferbrainz.

I just love Max. He served .... and serves some more .... and more ... and more.
