Condaleeza Rice - First female & ethnic US Pres to be a Republican?
Dump Cheney for Condi, Bush urged

It's just as easy today to connect the dots of Rovian political maneuvering as it was in 2000. Apparently, "Republicans" think Rice would make an excellent President.

To draw this conclusion, one need only observe the other news of the day

First, the impeachment theme - coming most recently from Illinois, whose state legislature is attempting to invoke a never-before-used Rule of the House in Congress to commence impeachment proceedings.

Second, grumblings from Republicans that Cheney should go and Rice take his place.

Getting the picture? Is anyone impeaching Rice right now? I don't think so; but she is going to have to answer a judge after receiving a subpoena over accusations that she leaked secret and classified National Security information.

And all this at the same time!

3. But.......if they appoint her as Veep
And let Georgie be impeached.......

Wow. What a race card. What a sex card. What a race and sex card.

And they'll BRAG about it.`

And then we'll indict her lying, treasonous ass.

Because, what they forget, is Dems don't have to worry about attacking blacks and women, because we have so much more than one of each.

4. Rice should be never considered based on her politics alone.
Edited on Sun Apr-23-06 05:09 AM by wake.up.america

Rice should be never considered based on her politics alone. I could care less about her gender and color, it's her politics that make me angry.

8. that's a given....
this would be done to con the 'people'...the republican'ts know how to nudgewink their support base...what's creepy is that rice herself will seem to take it serious! (the distract of course is that we mull this idea while forgetting the entire lot of these bastards belong in gitmo-you can be sure rice has spent many a bathroom session hyperventilating; she's scared, very very scared, they're all terrified imo, but rice is shaking in her boots...)

14. Yeah I was taking what LBJ said when he signed the equal rights admendment
about how he was signing away the south who he felt would never again vote in dems. I also know that repukes will not be very happy with Condi con Rice if she were picked, theres to much racism for pukes to allow that.

21. She's got to win the Repub primaries first
Even as VP, I doubt she could pull it off. How much do you think Bush's endorsement means nowdays?

Too many Repubs would never ever vote for a woman of any color, or an African American of either gender.

Besides, who says she can campaign? The relatively few times I've watched her speak, she was horrible. Voice all quavery, blinking like mad. 'Course, might have been because she was lying, but she'd be doing that on the stump too.

If by some magic, she won the Repub nomination (and with Diebold etc, it is possible -- caucuses and primaries would be much easier to manipulate than a general election, which apparently wasn't too hard), I think a lot of Repubs would stay home rather than vote for her. Clinton might be the only Democrat they'd hate enough to overcome their fear/hatred of a black woman.

23. Yeah, if we run a less radioactive candidate
such as Mark Warner or Wes Clark, Condi would be demolished, with a good number of Republicans defecting over. Condi is not popular among the grass-roots base no matter how much the pundits play her up, and if we were to run such candidates, we'd be getting quite a few disaffected Republicans in our corner.

I realize how ignorant they are abour race. They think, just because she's black, the African American community will vote for her.

Poor Republicans.

13. Gotta love the Republicans.
"Why not Condi as our president?" Dead pan.

Building up Condi Rice, the black Harriet Miers, is purely a political move, a racial hedge. She is nothing but an incompetent token, a useful mouthpiece, and a stalking horse for moderates. Republicans would never, ever be playing this Condi/Pres gambit if Rice actually expressed an interest in the candidacy. The base of their base is drooling crackers, and Democratic blacks would never vote for George W. Bush's "work wife."

Rice deserves to be fired just as much as Rumsfeld (and Bush for that matter). But she is black and pretty and "wink, wink" a credible GOP presidential candidate. It is disgusting Rovism at its worst. It would be really funny if she announced that she might actually seek the nomination. The look on the faces of the GOP power elite would be a picture to behold.

Just like they will NOT ever forgive John McCain.

However, Condi is anything but naive, she'll go into private business after this ... she knows that the Republican Party only tolerates her because she's good (vice uppity) and says what they LOVES to hear. :P

17. She is within possible reach of the White House. I would not like to
see it happen on the basis of her reluctance to appear before the 9/11 Commission, and more specifically, her shimmying and slithering during that not-under-oath hearing.

Her confirmation hearing for Sec. of State was no better.

I've definitely had enough GOP lies for one lifetime, and so I oppose her strictly but strongly on those grounds.

But I don't argue that she is within possible striking distance of the job.

22. No way-- she'd be overwhelmingly rejected by both parties
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 09:02 PM by Muddy Waters Guitar
Even though the Beltway elites (and Dick Morris in his bloviations) like to play up Condi Rice, she is massively unpopular with the GOP grassroots. She's quite openly pro-choice and thus has pretty much the entire evangelical base against her. She's also in favor of affirmative action and thus urban and young Republicans are staunchly against her. Many pro-Israeli Republicans are angry about her Middle East stands. She has no electoral experience whatsoever.

As for us Dems, well, little introduction is needed. Her immense corruption on Iraq, her baldfaced lies preceding the attack (which have been getting repeated an nauseum), association with the neocons, campaigning for an attack on Iran, and generalized support for Bush's warmongering make her unacceptable to us as well. Furthermore, her leaking of classified information makes her a criminal and, I suspect, pretty much kills any political prospects she had to begin with. Condi's going nowhere. If she were to somehow be nominated, and the Dems were to run somebody like Mark Warner or Wes Clark, Condi would be utterly crushed.

26. Wanna bet??
Remember, Bush I was pro-choice while running against Reagan. Openly attacked Reagan's stance on the issue. Then he became Reagan's running mate and *suddenly* was vocally anti-choice.

If Rice was selected as a replacement VP, expect the same sudden conversion from her, if not a full "born again" experience.

That being said, there's no way in hell that a lot of Republicans in the South, Midwest, (or even the Southwest), would EVER vote for a woman or a black. Just is NOT going to happen, unless the election is rigged.
