Hail Mary

We're down to the last minutes of the last quarter. The game had been going really well for them. For the first half. But early in the third quarter they started to take some serious hits. Now we're seeing their offensive line with a lot more holes.

The bench produced a new quarterback - sophomore Josh Bolten.

And he's thrown the classic Hail Mary Pass - the new 'last 1000 days' 5-point plan.

Will it get caught?

Or will we be able to block it?

1. The word on Bolten is that he's a capable chap, but he's been asked
to turn a mountainous shitheap into a marble castle.

The failures of the administration are huge and aren't going away. I'm not sure even a capable Chief of Staff can reverse them.

I believe Bush's presidency is irretrievably lost.

2. it's remarkably hard to change opinion in the last few years
people generally know what they're getting in a president by this point in their second term.

people know shrub and his record by now. what they don't know about him will only make their opinion of him worse.

4. You're right. By the 2nd term the public has it in the pocket.
And that's not been good for George Bush.

I think this summer and fall are going to be a bit bumpy for the Bush team, no matter how many points Bolten sets out for strategy.

3. Well they want to keep the
shitheap, they just want it to look and smell like a marble castle surrounded by roses. Appearances are everything.

That's hard to do to but it has ALWAYS been a pile of shit. Hypnotizing the public into believing the illusion just isn't working anymore. Maybe they need to hire some illusionists, bad witches and hypnotists, fill the water supply with cool-aid.
Saying BOO isn't enough anymore.

5. I like that voters aren't buying it anymore. Now I would like some
reassurance that it could be held in check! Agree with you completely on the illisuory aspect of this bunch. They've been fibbin' thieves from Day One.

8. At the end of a football game, when you're about to lose .....
.... you throw a loooooooooong pass. They are often unsuccessful. But if they work, you win. It is a go-for-broke kinda thing.

The name Hail Mary pass came from Notre Dame. They won a game with it many years agao and the name stuck. I don't know who actually coined it.
