Poll question: When do you think Rumsfeld will resign?
What do you think might be needed to trigger it? Anything new? Or just more of the same slow burn in Iraq?

2. Russert claims Bush says "firing Rumsfeld would be like firing myself."
In other words, don't hold your breath.

3. According to my calculations,
he's got about 3 months left. Here's why: the generals will continue carping away, showing up on TV programs, making speeches, appearing at college campuses. The roar will be unbelievable. Rep. John Murtha will continue holding speeches and hammering away at Rumsfailed.

Bush will continue to defend him.

Bush can not save him, though. Bush is deeply wounded as a president. He's sinking in the quicksand. He's in no position to rescue anybody. Especially not somebody as radioactive as Rumsfailed.

3 months, folks. Just watch.

5. Early August
Unlike the Press secretary position they'll feel the need to have a replacement in place before firing...I mean letting Rumsfeld resign. I imagine by August 8 there will be a someone from Conn. that the White house trusts who will be looking for employment.

6. Some recent posts on DU have got me to thinking that it might be
sooner rather than later.

Jim Baker is on the scene now, and things tend to happen when he is around. Usually not good things for Democrats, but in this case, Rummy is going to have to go.

It might be that Baker's the guy to hand him his pink slip.

I say within a month.

8. Yep. The consigliore will have the dirty work
Smirk can act like he didn't want to do it but the family enforcer made him do it and Baker can name a replacement.

I'm thinking its gonna happen sooner....a few months before the November elections...just a guess of course

10. Well, sure. The question should have been...
How soon will Bush (Baker) ask Rummy to resign. You know, to spend more time with his family.

The only way to really know when it'll happen is to find the WH memo for the next few months' "Presidential Medal of Freedom" award ceremonies.
