1. Maybe in 2008
After that, one might expect sober conservatives to take back the GOP, as they should.

7. Yes, we've all noticed

Perhaps he's running for president again.

Howver, if Bush and Cheney are both impeached and removed from office in 2007 -- and I think that can happen and that should happen -- then the 2008 dynamics change. Suddenly, the President of the United States is a Democrat: Not John Kerry or Al Gore or Hillary Clinton, but Nancy Pelosi. That will change everything.

2. Alot of northeast moderate Republicans supported Kerry in 2004...
including many members of TR's family. They were all afraid that Bush would take the party so far to the right that the GOP would implode, keeping them out of power for a generation. It looks like that is what is happening.

After that days-long rant, the other week, about all the perverts in the GOP, she'd really dig this one.

8. WHICH "VN vets"?
Some of them KNOW they owe John Kerry huge gratitude.

The ones who have a problem with him are the ones who have bought the rethug lies and either never bothered to read for themselves, or couldn't comprehend what he actually said in 1971.

And everytime a Democrat lets that slip by - allowing the implication that there is something to forgive - they reinforce the lies and spin.

If you have no idea what I am talking about:

17. Swifties outted themselves already. Ever read McCain's biography?
I doubt he would launch an attack on Kerry because he'll be shown as a major hypocrite. Imagine the Kerry ads where he uses McCain's own voice from his Books on Tape reading his section on Vietnam normalization and he credits Kerry with making it happen and for keeping him from losing his cool and losing control of his emotions.

Heck, Kerry should run that ad no matter what.

23. That's why you specifically wanted the audio books
If it's Kerry/McCain that chapture is worth 1000 times its weight in gold. I seriously think it's one of the best, most positive stories of Kerry managing something. It shows a Kerry that we see on CSPAN but which the Republicans and media tried to hide.

The informed, articulate Kerry of the debates meshes with the Kerry in McCain's book far better that the Republican smear of an empty suit Senator.

I assume that there would be a copywrite problem though

that chapter needs to be seen by everyone - even if someone just thinks McCain was being generous it's a great insightful view of Kerry. (and indrectly of McCain - who needs halp with anger management)

9. No, I tell you it's gotta be GORE/KERRY IN '08! The Poetic Justice Ticket!
The two men the American people WANTED to be president, the two who won and were unfairly denied that office--running TOGETHER, Gore for top spot because he won first, has 8 years experience as V-P, and is hot! Totally focused, fabulous, passionate thinker and speaker. And Kerry--whatever I think of him (and I have mixed feelings), I am convinced that the won, and I want the will of the American people to be obeyed and democracy to be restored!

It's a magical ticket. Everybody will realize it. They'll win by a 20% margin--and bust the Bushite voting machines right into 'Boston Harbor'!

At best, maybe 10% of them would vote for Kerry.

The independents are the issue. And how the hell do you convince them?

13. Some did in 2004
The Republicans are as diverse as the Democrats. Kerry, of course, will not win any of the Limbaugh obsessed listeners or the FR posters. He did win many of the socially liberal/ economic conservatives. Where I live there are more of them then there are RW lunatics.

In addition to the socially liberal/ economic conservatives he won, many of the others didn't buy the propaganda . One neighbor of mine, who is a Republican called my a few weeks after the election to tell me that I should try to catch the Larry King show with Vanessa and Alexandra Kerry. She had just seen it and was amazed by it and thought I would like to see it.

In 2004, we hadn't discussed politics. I had a Kerry sign, so she knew I was for Kerry. I suspected she was for Bush. When she called, she said that though she voted for Bush, she had watched the Democratic convention and had come away from it comfortable with the idea of Kerry as President. She said that she liked his speech, but it was the genuineness of his daughters' comments that vouched for his authenticity. She pointed out in reference to the Larry King interview, that both his daughters spoke of service to the country and other values just as Kerry did.

Her vote was mostly because she saw Kerry as a liberal and she was concerned that he would not be a fiscal conservative and would expand government. I regret I didn't talk to her before the election. She had misgivings about Bush and Kerry is on economic issue pretty much a moderate. That he is still for the line item veto as a solution to pork and that he has done so much as the chair or ranking member of the small business committee are things that could maybe have won her over.

I think that the above will hold for many Democratic Candidates.

19. True. There are moderate Repubs, but we have them already
I guess I was picturing Swift Boat supporting, Limbaugh listening freepers. There's no way with them. But they're pretty far gone.

But you're right. We did have bumperstickers that said "Republicans for Kerry" for a reason.

21. We don't have all or even most of the moderate Republicans
I agree the RW is beyond winning (as to be fair is our LW for a Republican.)

What I take from it now, is that whether the candidate is Kerry or someone else, people like me need to break through the reserve, shyness, or politeness that stops us from trying to identify the issues that may "sell" our candidate to Republicans.

One more vote in NJ wouldn't make that must difference, Kerry won NJ easily. But I also know that some of my relatives voted for Bush. One, a woman started a small business when she passed it to her son and daughter, she gave the daughter 51% to keep it minority owned. Who wrote more legislation on this than anyone? Kerry. She bought most of the Republican lies about him doing nothing - where I bet he affected her personally.

With the media against us, we need to sell the candidates.

15. Did you see JK's Boston speech last weekend? It was amazing...
Reminds me of his Iowa speech in the Primaries...where he truly and suprisingly came from behind to start the "win" for the nom. Add to JK, either Gore OR Feingold, and we HAVE the 'ticket' we need.

Regarding JK last weekend, there was a renewed energy in his speech, a steely-eyed certainty... determined "I'm he's right man at the right man with the right message" set firmly in his 'jaw. Plus his astute observation of the audience over-the-top acceptance of his speech 'sealed the deal.'

I'd like to re-watch the speech again, to study more closely, but it WAS a true work of rhetorical art...craftfully written and prsented.

Each of us has a "theme" in our lives that repeats over and over, until we get it right...get past it. THIS time, he's got it right. War, wrong wars, and stopping the waste of it all...is JK's recurring theme.

27. He had the audience from the moment he walked in,
but the speech seemed to exceed what the audience expected - which says a lot as the email promised a lot and there was incredible anticipation.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have gone to Boston to see it. All I can say is that it was well worth the trip from NJ. After the speech, there was a very long standing ovation when Kerry finished. This was clearly a very personal speech for him and many of his family members were there including his daughters.

25. As I've said, I have a son who is Republican...
He, as well as my Green kid and my Democratic kids, all joined together for the first time in our family's history to support the same candidate in the last primaries... and that was Wes Clark.

When Kerry got the nom, he came to me and said he just couldn't vote for him. And he wouldn't.

If a Republican and a Green can join their Democratic family and find something to vote for in the same candidate, then that candidate has some serious mojo, and this Party should be exploiting that to draw voteers from ALL Parties to us in the next election.

Wes Clark can do that.

33. I'm surprised that he made that decision - Clark aligned his legislative
policies to Kerry's almost to the letter, which would be exactly the move one would expect from someone who had progressive leanings but was never in the position of crafting the legislation. I was able to realize right away that Clark had liberal tendencies while many were still accusing him of being a Republican.

I find it odd that your son found no reason to respect the fact that no other lawmaker in modern history has investigated and exposed more government corruption than John Kerry has - I would think that concerned citizens would see that as a big plus. Especially up against the level of corruption we've seen from BushInc.

34. He's a Republican.
He grew up in my house in Mass. He lives in a Red State now, and will not vote for Kerry under any circumstances. I've given up trying to reason with him about all Republicans and Republican policies being bad. We all ganged up on him in the GE to try and get him to even hold his nose and vote Kerry, but he would not budge. In the end, he just didn't vote. I was disappointed, but since I had my own issues with Kerry, didn't re-engage post-election.

Let's see who the Party runs this time against the Republicans. If Wes is on the ticket with anyone but Kerry or Clinton, he could definitely cross Party lines to vote for that ticket.

35. If your son thinks that IranContra, BCCI, CIA drugrunning were issues that
SHOULD stay covered up, even though they're relevant to everything happening today, then I question his grasp on what is good for this country.

Because the bottom line is that Kerry is an open government lawmaker and that matters a great deal for who gets into the oval office.

Did he side with Bush1 and those who blocked Kerry's investigation of BCCI just because he was a Republican?

Does he resent Kerry's constant investigations of Reagan and Bush that exposed their criminality because of a loyalty to the GOP?

Does he even realize that if Kerry's investigation of BCCI had been opened up for the public record in its entirety, a 9-11 wouldn't have happened?

Seems to me that these are important questions regarding your son's sense of history.

20. No way.
Try talking to someone who voted for * in 2004. If you can get him/her to agree that, yes, Bush is doing a terrible job, his/her next comment is likely:

"Yeah, but he's better than Kerry. No way would I have voted for that (creep/bore/anti-american/other insult)!"

Sadly, the swiftboating smear worked.
