Save at the Pump? Roll Back environmental restrictions!
Bush Eases Environmental Rules on Gasoline

By NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON Apr 25, 2006 (AP)— President Bush on Tuesday ordered a temporary suspension of environmental rules for gasoline, making it easier for refiners to meet demand and possibly dampen prices at the pump. He also halted for the summer the purchase of crude oil for the government's emergency reserve.

The moves came as political pressure intensified on Bush to do something about gasoline prices that are expected to stay high throughout the summer.

Bush said the nation's strategic petroleum reserve had enough fuel to guard against any major supply disruption over the next few months.

"So, by deferring deposits until the fall, we'll leave a little more oil on the market. Every little bit helps," he said.

"Easing the environment rules will allow refiners greater flexibility in providing oil supplies since they will not have to use certain additives such as ethanol to meet clean air standards."

but...but , he said we need to help by increasing our use of ethanol. So to do that, we ease up on the law to use more ethanol? Hmmm...

2. Roll back enviro restrictions!
increase profits.

The formula has always been Pollution=profit.
No company in history has ever hurt the environment to give the consumers a break.

4. And can you see the backlash to anyone who opposes this
Because, unfortunately for many and especially those who drive the oversized behometh SUVs, the price of gas is much more important that the global warming we're going to allow.

Personally, I don't think the environmental regs have anything to do with gas prices - I think this was all a setup to find a way to lax environmental laws and get buy-in from the voters.

3. I just read about that on DailyKos and I'm flabbergasted
It's almost like Bush & Cheney figured that if the Oil Companies gouge the customers then they could use that gouging as an excuse to lax the environmental regulations. I almost feel like we were sucker-punched into this one. And get this - if the democrats oppose it, then we're the bad people for not caring about working class people not being able to afford their gasoline

DAMN DAMN DAMN

5. there is no oil shortage
this is all bullshit. go to google and look up the oil production and drilling figures from the oil industry. there will be no disruption in the future....i did notice iran has cut back on oil prodution and i wonder why?

those who think oil will go to euros don`t invest in that oil will be bought with wallybucks for many years into the future.

6. On ethanol
logic is not a repug strength. Republican ties to oil companies have caused dirty air and water, threatened America's security, killed thousands needlessly and threaten to gut America's economy.Reducing the number of Republicans in office is the Democratic plan to get America back on track.
