Ken Lay: "It was the media's fault."
This comes from the news break on The Guy James show, just a moment ago (1:05 PM Pacific), so there is no link...but I'm sure you will see this surface everywhere.

The statement was basically that Enron was doing fine until "a series of negative media reports sent Enron stock spiraling."

So there you have it.

1. Tell that to all the employees who lost their jobs, retirements, and
homes. Yeah, Ken, that's the ticket. :eyes:

2. Well, either the media's fault
or Bill Clinton's fault. Surely Lay and Skilling are innocent victims. After all, Lay's wife actually had to go to the grocery store as well as buy clothes off the rack! Gasp! The horror of it all.

7. that pretty much acknowledges that he knew it was a house of cards
they leveraged themselves to the hilt, and backed everything with the ever-increasing stock price.

once the bubble popped, deal after deal failed as covenants were violated when the stock dropped below a deal trigger. then each deal failure caused the stock price to fall further, and so on.

what set it in motion might have been the media, but lay, skilling, and fastow are the ones who set up the dominos in the first place.

real companies don't go from 7th largest to bankrupt in a matter of months simply because of a few bad stories in the press.

13. I feel so sorry for the "Kenny boy Lay's"
First class Wine here

Kenneth Lay, the former Enron chief executive, yesterday spoke out for the first time since the company's collapse and placed the blame for the firm's failure squarely on finance chief Andrew Fastow.

In a lengthy interview with the New York Times, Mr Lay protested his innocence, spoke of his vilification in the media and the dramatic slump in his personal finances. He said his wife had compared their lives to an episode of the science fiction series, the Twilight Zone "where you live your whole life" trying to be ethical and straightforward "to almost overnight being referred to in the national media and elsewhere as a kind of pariah".

14. He missed the new phrasing
Main Stream Media has been officially renamed "Drive By Media". Listen to Rush or Hannity for 5 minutes and you will hear that phrase. They are accusing the "press" of not looking deeply into issues. If they did, they would see how good Bush has been for this country & the world.

15. Just so everyone knows, I remember several math quizzes that I
flunked in 7th grade. Several in a row, if memory serves.

And I blame the liberal media.

Just wanted to go on record with that.

addict's personality--it's never THEIR fault. They never take responsibility for THEIR actions.

Whether he's a substance abuser or not, he's still an asshole.

If there were justice in this case, he'd end up doing years of hard time with "Bubba" as his boyfriend.

And when he is released, live in the shittiest trailer park anywhere for the rest of his life.
