Which is the better slogan to bring people into the Democratic Party?
1. Join the Democratic Party, where your voice matters!

or

2. Join the Democratic Party, where what you care about doesn't matter, so get behind the leadership-preferred candidate who can "win swing voters", sit down, and shut the fuck up.

Guess which slogan would best describe the party today... and guess under which one we'd have a stronger, more unified party.

1. Free beer!
Your first, obviously, but mine has a certain seductive charm to it.

18. It's a personal portrait. It's not easy being green.
But, it is easy being from Michigan. With one unfortunate caveat.

16. the second one being "too long" is your only complaint?
ok, we may have more problems than we anticipated.

As to the first slogan having no political meaning, you're right. but I think that the Democratic party should be about citizen participation and citizen control. Progressives and liberals will self select into the party as right wingers will be enamorated with the Republicans.

We live in a time of low motivation and participation, and that is because everything is controlled in washington. They tell us who to vote for, they knock out candidates the consultants don't like, and the people have no voice. It's either vote for the guy we choose or see the Repbulican win.

We need to give people a stake in who gets the D nomination. That's how you bring people back into the fold.

Rules it out of court from the start: no one will read through it, therefore it cannot communicate anything, therefore whatever its meaning might be is wholly irrelevant to discussion of its worth as a slogan....

17. I've seen others here told unequivocally...
...that, if they've been former Republicans, that 'we' don't need them in our party, they've been banned for their questions, and told to shut up their doubts. I've seen one poster tombstoned simply because someone was fussing about SUV's and she mentioned Kerry had 6 of them! That's the truth--and she got banned for it!

If you all want to entice moderate Republicans to inch over to our side, you're going to need to try wholly different methods. The nastiness here--especially toward newbies, and with those who disagree even slightly--is making us seem like a group of people with whom NOBODY would like to associate (and they're not.)

19. With all due respect, DU is NOT a recruitment site, for the 1000th time.
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 05:55 PM by blondeatlast
We are here to hash out our frustrations with the 2000 Selection (may I refer you to the Rules that I KNOW you read on your way into the site?! :hi:).

It has grown by leaps and bounds and evolved from there.

We don't play nice and I don't wanna play nice. My country was stolen on November 4, 2000 and this is my place of refuge.

And again with all due respect, one other thing, since I know you read the Rules pertaining to credible sources--can you give us all a little linky to the Kerry's 6 SUVs allegation?

We pretty much nailed that one in summer 3004 (as in, they are located in his different places of residence).

If DU turns you away from the good of your country, I'm sorry. But not too sorry, dammit.

Edit: They don't play nice at our rival site, either--and that's fine and dandy with me.

21. That's fine.

Just as long as you know that 'not playing nice' has consequences.

(And I was responding to the OP who had mentioned attracting former GOPs. I simply mentioned a couple reasons why that won't happen.)

And P.S.--I'm very much FOR America and the Democrats, but nobody ever said I had to put up with unnecessary nastiness just so some weak sister can get his rocks off. I feel sorry for the newbies here that get blindsided by a 1000+ poster--and then get banned when they, very justifiably, try to answer or stand up for themselves. It's one thing not to 'play nice'--it's another thing to sucker punch someone and then run in the house.

25. We will not survive
unless we are a party that

(1) provides an outlet for all views of our members to be expressed
(2) provides all democrats a fair chance to nominate a candidate who shares their views on whatever issues are important to them, no matter how insignificant to others that issue/those issues are, and even if the incumbent is a senior Democrat.
(3) has a leadership which stays out of primaries and does not arm twist candidates into or out of the race.
