Pelosi: "Logical follow-up of 2 oil men in the White House is $3 Gas"
Say what you want about Nancy Pelosi. DU has no issue posting "Sam Seder is on FIRE...Mike Malloy is on FIRE...Randi is on FIRE" threads on a DAILY basis. Give Nancy Pelosi credit where credit is due. She may not please you 100% of the time, but today, she said what needed to be said.

Nancy: "If you want to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and therefore improve our national security situation, you can't do it if you're a Republican because you are too wedded to the oil companies. We have two oilmen in the white house.

"The logical follow-up from that is $3 a gallon gasoline. There is no accident. Tt is a cause and effect. A cause and effect. How dare the president of the United States make a speech today in April, many, many, many months after the american people have had to undergo the cost of home heating oil...read on"

5. Tough talk
I don't entirely agree with Ms. Pelosi. The cause of $3 gasoline has a lot to do with increased demand. We would be looking at it if we had two conservationists in the White House.

Nevertheless, Bush has been President for over five years and has done nothing in that time to alleviate to situation that everybody saw coming even before he took office. Unless he thought invading Iraq and stealing their oil was supposed to be a solution.

It's good that she's stepping forward. We'll all be seeing more of her after Bush and Cheney are impeached and convicted next year.

9. Well she'll become "President Pelosi" if Bush and Cheney are impeached
Anyway, I agree that increased demand is just as much as factor in the price increase. However, if Democrats were in the White House, we would have better oversight of the oil industry, and we would be able to force Detroit (technically they should be called something else now, since very few actual cars are made there) to obey stricter fuel emissions laws. We would also be serious in promoting hybrids and bio-diesel.

10. Several things that could and should be done
1. Serious conservation measures, such as mandating higher fuel efficiency, as you said.
2. Development of new transportation technology, such as hybrid and fully electric cars that are practical.
3. Development mass transportation that people will want to use.
4. Development of alternative renewable energy sources.

Bush is not going to do any of those. And if he says he is, just remember that this is the same guy who said Saddam was looking to buy yellow cake in Africa.

6. $400 a month natural gas heat
"Looking foward" to $400 a month A/C. Oh, wait. That was BEFORE we had the $75 a barrel crude oil. $600 a month?

7. Too bad they're not blue-collar working people
Because then blue-collar wages would have gone up over 100% during their term too right?

I would love to hear a debate between Congresswoman Pelosi and Dubya.

That would be a great evening.
