Interesting/Disturbing Speculation In A Rasmussen Poll Released Today

The poll is entitled: Election 2008: Democrats By 12. Typical poll stuff showing the should the presidential election be held today, Democrats would get 44% of the vote, with the GOP getting 32%

All well and good, but since no candidates are actually named, probaby much more reflective of the national mood today than anything else.

But here is where it gets interesting/disturbing:

The survey also asked respondents how they would vote if "a third party candidate ran in 2008 and promised to build a barrier along the Mexican border and make enforcement of immigration law his top priority."

With that option, support fell sharply for both major parties. The Democrats still come out on top with support from 31% of Americans. The third party candidate moved into a virtual tie at 30%, while the GOP fell to 21%.

My question here: are we about to see the first racially based third party campaign in the U.S. since George Wallace ran in 1968? And would such a candidacy receive the kind of support this poll indicates? And if so, who will our Jean-Marie Le Pen be?

May 1, why now. Enough of knee jerk stupidity about "obeying the law." Where are these people and their outrage about every other law * broke. He took us to war on a lie. I'm sure that's illegal. The Latino/Latina community in this country is not monolithic by any means. However, every element of the larger coalition knows what it's like to be called a felon now...just for knowing (but not reporting an undocumented worker). What a disgrace especially since Sensenbrenner is the author or sponsor of that legislation.

What I like about the May 1st movement (my name for all the protests) is there is no "leader." What a terrible thing for MSM. They don't have a Jesse Jackson to trash and thus allow the bigots to dismiss an entire movement (I like Jackson and feel he was treated unfairly). They don't have anything other than raw bigotry. That's what we're seeing with this damn fence. BIGOTRY. Somebody better get out there and tell the truth. This is the EXACT SAME TYPE OF STUPIDITY THAT GOT US IN IRAQ.

I don't know about other areas, but in Northern Virginia, there would be few new homes with out undocumented workers (who become eligible for state labor laws and workman's compensation...which is damn fair, I think).

americans did all those eleven million jobs before the influx of mexicans.

it is sad that anyone is jobless. The current situation is , either mexicans or americans hold those eleven million jobs.

Not hardly. I'm about as liberal/progressive as you can get and I believe that the borders must be secured ... race has absolutely nothing to do with it.

But if you want to go down that path ... I don't understand the arrogance of mostly suburban white Americans getting all "bleeding hearted" about thinking it is just great that Mexicans are leaving the land of their birth to come and be our servants.

I'm for a revolution in Mexico to throw out the elite plutocracy that uses NAFTA to exploit poor Mexicans and forces potential political 'troublemakers' to migrate to the U.S.

Besides, I am very skeptical of anything where I would be on the same side as George W. Bush ... he too is for a "guest peon" program and thinks all the illegal immigrants now in our country should be able to become citizens.

No, this is not about race, it is about wages and benefits for our own citizens -- of all ethnicites -- and about Mexico becoming a better place to live.

But the message of the poll is that knee-jerk liberals are in danger of risking a reactionary getting into the presidency in two years if they don't start putting our own folks first.
