I received this e-mail on the new Senator McCain ... the Senator McCain that prefers to cater to the religious right instead of talking straight.
This petition asks Senator McCain NOT to speak at Liberty University because by doing so he is supporting Falwell and his religious right agenda. However, McCain protests that this is merely an opportunity for him to get his message out to people who disagree with him. What do you guys think? Should McCain speak at Liberty University or not?
Where is the "Straight Talk" Senator McCain?
In 2000 Senator McCain denounced right-wing extremist Jerry Falwell on of America's "agents of intolerance." But in gearing up in his run for President he recently told Falwell that he spoke "in haste" before accepting an invitation to speak at the radical Christian college Liberty University. Tell Senator McCain not to abandon his straight talking ways to appease the Christian right, and to cancel his appearance at Liberty University>>

Senator John McCain has prided himself on being a "straight talker." In his presidential run in 2000 he called his campaign the Straight Talk Express, and now he has a Political Action Committee named Straight Talk America. It was this "straight talk" that lead him to denounced right-wing extremist Jerry Falwell as one of America's "agents of intolerance."
But where is the straight talk today? In gearing up for his run for President in 2008, McCain told Falwell that he spoke "in haste," and has accepted an invitation to give the commencement speech a Farwell's radical Christian college, Liberty University.
Tell Senator McCain not to embolden the radical religious right and their agenda by going to Liberty University>>
http://go.care2.com/e/kA_/ky/PN7OIt seems that McCain seems to have set out to become the darling of the radical religious right, and has given up on his straight talk. For instance, after sharply denouncing a federal constitutional ban on gay marriage in 2004, he recently told Falwell that he would support a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. McCain has also set out to pass voucher legislation that would allow taxpayer money to be spent on religious schools. And to the delight of religious extremists, he said he would have signed the recently enacted abortion ban in South Dakota were he the governor, even though there are no protections for the life of the mother.
