(CBS 11 News) DALLAS Numerous immigration rallies are scheduled to take place over the weekend, but the protesting won’t end on Sunday.
Leaders with the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) have called for an economic boycott on Monday, to show the financial impact that the Hispanic community can have on the economy.
Organizers are calling Monday “National Immigrant Civil Rights Day” or "Not a Penny Day."
The Monday plan targets businesses.
LULAC officials are spreading the word, urging Hispanic citizens not to spend a single penny on Monday. The protest could even include service workers not coming in to work.
“We want to test the muscles of our community,” said LULAC National President Hector Flores. “We think this is one way to bring people to their senses that you need to play fair and square with the immigrants.”
