Dean, the Matchmaker, to attend NC wedding, skip WH correspondents event.
This is a cute story. Kind of heartwarming.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/28/AR2006042802072.html

A former presidential hopeful will be conspicuously absent at tonight's White House Correspondents' Dinner. We'll give you a hint: It's not John Kerry .

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has decided to forgo the see-and-be-seen event to attend a wedding in North Carolina. But it's not just any wedding, mind you. Without Dean, it might not have even happened.

DNC staffers Allison Sharpe and Andrew Wright found love in Burlington, Vt., during the former governor's presidential campaign in 2003. They stuck with Dean through that whole "Yeaaagggh!!!" speech flap and ended up in Washington, working for the DNC. Wright even proposed to Sharpe in Dean's office this past summer, with an assist from the chairman.

"Allison and Andrew are two wonderful people," Dean said yesterday. "I am honored to be able to share in their special day and of course wish them all the best."

1. Good for Dean. I don't understand why he'd want to go to the White
House Correspondent's dinner anyway. Isn't this where you have to sit through a sick pseudo-comedy routine by the Liar-In-Chief?

3. I think that is the one.
Was it the one where last year Laura took the microphone from George and made jokes about him that were not funny at all?

6. I'm glad a leader just says he's not going. The skits are insulting
In the present climate, I wish more Democrats would stay away.

8. Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make me a match...
Find me a find,
catch me a catch
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Look through your book,
And make me a perfect match

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
I'll bring the veil,
You bring the groom,
Slender and pale.
Bring me a ring for I'm longing to be,
The envy of all I see.

For Papa,
Make him a scholar.
For mama,
Make him rich as a king.

For me, well,
I wouldn't holler
If he were as handsome as anything.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
Make me a match,
Find me a find,
Catch me a catch,
Night after night in the dark I'm alone
So find me match,
Of my own.

12. Plutonium Page at DailyKos and her husband Frank met that way.
They live in Europe now, can't remember which country. They posted their story at the blog when it happened.

14. Pretty rude they referenced Kerry considering his family's in MOURNING
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 04:34 PM by blm
right now and was not scheduled to attend tonight's event anyway.

The WaPost just can't even make a nice story out of Dean's adventure without some obligatory snark against Kerry?

This is an uncalled shot at Kerry from the WaPo.

17. I started to edit that rude part out....I would have if I had known.
That was thoughtless of them. I heard about her death but was not paying attention to the dates. She was a true activist, wasn't she?

18. Yes - wrote two important books about living with depression and devoted
alot of resources to environmental organizations.

It was fine with me that you left the WaPost snark in - my battle is with a corporate media that can inject snark into any story about Democrats even at the most inappropriate of times.

It's just another perfect example of their tactics, imo.

19. Thanks.
Someone in our group here last year had read her books and talked about them in an email.

I did not realize her death was so recent. That really was rude.

I do... due to Dean
We get some fun mail here at DFA headquarters in Vermont. One of the items that arrived this week was this fantastic photo from a couple not far from us.

Just wanted to send along this photo from our wedding on September 10, 2005. Being active in Vermont Democratic politics, we originally met at a Howard Dean Meetup in August 2003. Our wedding would not have been complete without a remembrance of how we got together.
Erin & Antonin Robbason

Congratulations, Erin and Antonin! We think that's a great way to start of married life...
