"If you impeach Bush, you're doing a huge favor for the Republicans"...
Critic's Notebook
Neil Young's 'Living With War' Shows He Doesn't Like It

By JON PARELES
Published: April 28, 2006

Neil Young unleashes a digital broadside today. His new album, "Living With War" (Reprise), was recorded and mostly written three to four weeks ago and as of Friday can be heard in its entirety free on his Web site, www.neilyoung.com, and on satellite radio networks.

In a song whose title alone has already brought him the fury of right-wing blogs, he urges, "Let's Impeach the President." It ends with Mr. Young shouting, "Flip, flop," amid contradictory sound bites of President Bush. But Mr. Young insists the album is nonpartisan.

"If you impeach Bush, you're doing a huge favor for the Republicans," he argued, speaking by telephone from California. "They can run again with some pride."

Mr. Young wants the album heard as a whole. The online streams play through from beginning to end; until the CD is ready, the downloadable copies will be available only as a bundle of the full album. "That first impression is so important," he said. "Instead of just going to 'Let's Impeach the President,' people will have to absorb the whole thing. To understand the songs, you need to understand where the whole album's coming from. It protects my right as an artist to have the work presented the way I created it."

1. Young is right.....
If the GOP had any sense at all, they'd have jettisoned Bush awhile ago.

Apparently Bush had some very powerful friends.

3. au contraire
I think it's more that our country has never seen anything like this. It literally is a mafioso-type takeover of democracy. There is no template, no plan, no pattern to follow for the opposition.

We have leaders with courage and some who have the fortitude to stand behind men like John Conyers. The trouble is that there is not enough of them.

In the end, however, it doesn't matter that there weren't enough lining up behind Conyers. The grassroots backlash on bushco is going to be brutal. In many ways, it's better that it come from the grassroots.

By not moving on Bush, the Republicans are doing far more damage to themselves than we could ever do. Some of them know that, but something is keeping them from acting on it.

2. That may be true but
Bush deserves to be impeached and should be. What's right is right, even if it does help the Republicans.

4. I agree
It simply cannot go on record that the U.S. tolerated this violation of its constitution.

Bush and Cheney must be impeached if we are to save the Republic.

7. Republicans don't deserve to be proud of anything. They have supported
these monsters down the line. God, I'm sick of this nonpartisan shit...it's LONG past time to be partisan and get rid of these cockroaches. Man, with people like these the revolt against Britain would NEVER have happened!

8. AMEN!
You hit it right on the nail!

We should impeach the entire congress (House and Senate) as well
and just plain start all over.
Revamp campaign finance, eliminate corp. contributions entirely,
minimize personal contributions to a few thou, force the media
to give equal coverage to all, disallow TV ads entirely, disallow
PACS, etc...
A high level public employee or elected official CAN NOT become a
lobbyist until they are at least 5 years out of office. Likewise,
a lobbyist cannot run for public office or go into public service
for a similiar time period.
The public should be able to initiate special prosecutors and
independant grand juries. In fact, the executive branch should
not have overall authority of the Dept. of Justice.
