It may feel like the worst of times right now...however, in a short space of time (just under 10 months) the gestalt of the
country, as reflected by the corporate MSM, has changed.
You know, language is so fascinating. Compare the postive words in the first article to the negative words in the second.
I came across the first article while looking up specific WH quotes.
On July 11th, 2005 MSNBC featured a story about gwb's speech at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.
Read and listen to the "doing great but a little concerned" tone of these paragraphs.
Bush’s war against the terrorists is a major reason he won re-election last year: Americans came out of the voting booth saying they thought he would do a better job of protecting them from another attack.
It also remains his strength. Americans responded to an AP-Ipsos poll conducted last month by giving the president higher job approval ratings on terrorism than on his handling of the Iraq war, Social Security or other domestic issues.
Yet his approval numbers have slipped in recent months leading up to Monday’s speech at Quantico.
Today's AP article...the tone is completely different. "everyone knows what a screw up he is, and he continues to screw things over not just for himself, but for his friends and allies."
With the war in its fourth year, Iraq hovers as a huge problem for Bush, whose approval ratings have fallen to record lows. Republicans are anxious that Iraq — along with other public concerns like soaring gasoline costs — will lead to the GOP losing control of one or even both houses of Congress in November.
It took four years to consistently see the mildly critical tone of the first article; less than 10 months to the overtly critical tone of the second (from the AP, no less).
The tide is turning...hang in there, everyone! :hi: MKJ
