Phil only needed 60% of the delegates votes and he got 62.7. Now its a whole new ballgame!

1. Someone at DU said Will State Demo's reflect will of people
not true.. The people in the polls are too bamboozled by the role of money in the idiotic tv ad game. How many watch televised debates. We followed the will of the people after New Hampshire, got someone programed and boring. ( Biggest invective was Kerry's wife.) This vote for someone who will win attitude has been losing lots of Elections.
Hopefully the people will be influenced by the State convention, this is not party hacks' , but if the people knew how convention delegates were selected in California, the will of the people.

2. So, is Angelides good or bad?
Considering that the Terminator needs to return to film making.

3. ( filmaking) arni's not good at that either.
Angelides has the support of labor. His progressive credientials are much more sound than Westly. Sen. Boxer has endorsed him. that is enough for me. Plus, he is a sharp debator with a keen sense of humor. but, he is considerably less wealthy than Westly. There for , fewer ads to tell lies with. Unlike Westly, Angelides has been a thorn to Armi whenever possible.

8. yeah, check out both their websites...I'm supporting Westly
but Phil has good issues and answers also. Both
were endorsed by the Sierra Club. A lot of Phil's
support has come from the party insiders who owe
him for his work as state party chair when Boxer
was elected and from people who were fed up with
Arnold early on. (I certainly never supported the
recall or Arnold, as many in the CA Dem party did)
Phil has some clouds hanging over him
right now due to his developer partner and daughter
giving $5 million of their own money to buy Phil
television time. There was some coordination between
the PAC fronting the money and the campaign.

But check them out for yourself.

11. Angelides is also an honest, open-government, solution seeking lawmaker
with a reputation of competence and dedication to his job.

5. They are both pretty decent candidates.
Angelides has the support of the Dem superstructure, so I'm surprised at the acceptance here by some of the indies, but that's okay. It proves that endorsements of those perceived as part of the machine aren't necessarily a good or bad thing, it really has more to do with the candidate.

What's important is that Schwarzenegger needs to get the hell out of my state.

6. you have never been involved in CA Dem politics
Edited on Mon May-01-06 12:58 AM by cyclezealot
there is no machine! Those who attend the State COnvention are the core of the party. ANyone can attend a party caucus. Almost any hard working Democratic activist can attend the state convention. All you have to do is volunteer to go and pay your own way.and no one will pay your way for you!
I know I have been involved in the party infastructure. Anyone is welcome to become an activist. It is not these people who are party hacks. It is that they are knowledgeable. and represent the foot soldiers of the state party. In fact one aspect of these state convention delegates. They do not represent the monied interests. they are the poorer foot soldiers. Foot soldiers often are those less influential because they have not nearly as much cash.
Don't believe me. Attend a local California Democratic club or assembly caucus. You will see NO party boses selecting who attends state convetions.
It is the open primary where gullible voters are influenced by the foul role of big contributors whose method is mostly smear campaigns put on by campaign experts recruited from the mass media.
This must be the reason the American electoral process has given us such smucks, in both the Democratic and Repuk parties.
Enough to make one think Canada's closed party nominating process might be an improvement.

Your factoids make some interesting omissions, specifically Angelides has made millions as a developer and is also endorsed by the more conservative Diane Feinstein.

The "machine" I facetiously made reference to is the fact that Angelides is the first Democratic gubernatorial candidate to get the party endorsement in a contested primary since 1990. However, Westley has an 11-point advantage over Angelides and polls more successfully in a match-up with Schwarzenegger.

This is for whatever it's worth since you've declared I've never been involved in California politics.

12. This is interesting
"Your factoids make some interesting omissions, specifically Angelides has made millions as a developer and is also endorsed by the more conservative Diane Feinstein."

If Angelides is a millionaire, what does that make Westly? A billionaire? (So to speak).

All of the mainstream campaign coverage seems to highlight how Westly has such a large advantage over Angelides in personal wealth and financial resources.

14. my point
was that the post conveniently left out information about one candidate that was perhaps deemed not flattering, which people tend to do when trying to sell a candidate. Face it, most people in politics are wealthy.

I don't have an affinity for either candidate in particular; I just want Schwarzenegger to go away.
