No Colbert on This Week w/ Stephanopoulos -- SHAME HIM NOW!!!
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 01:39 PM by FULL_METAL_HAT
Pre-script: If you don't want to support this shaming effort, that's fine, but calls to "calm down" are not needed; thanks in advance. This is a discussion of DOING something, not a discussion of what NOT to do. We're all adults here and should understand that our actions can actually mean something. To those who don't agree with this effort then please do what your momma taught you: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anthing at all. As well, as a reminder of the power of maintaining civility in any DU discussion, if posters don't seem to be adding to the conversation, please be aware that you have the option of putting that person on your ignore list. Just click the ignore icon on one of their posts. It works for me! :)

Can you believe it, this guy was (is?) a Democrat who was with Bill Clinton as de facto Press Secretary AND a leading member of the 1992 Clinton campaign?

Obviously George Stephanopoulos (GS) is bent in some way.

We can expect the rest of the MSM to bury their shameful heads in the sand but here's some very COMPELLING facts about GS you might not know that make his LACK of comment on Colbert's scathing humor, and especially his "Press Conference" video, STICK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB!

All of these show that he went AGAINST EVERYTHING HE IS to NOT mention COLBERT!
  1. We already know GS is "press" and actually did actually DID press conferences, so Colbert was right up his alley, unlike the rest of the talking heads.

  2. "In December 2005, ABC News officially named him Chief Washington Correspondent" So we KNOW he HAD to be there last night to see all this with his own eyes.

  3. His wife IS A COMEDIENNE!!! Likely she was there with GS last night, so its ridiculous to think Colbert's performance would not be appreciated in their household on a PROFESSIONAL COMEDY level!

  4. GS is a Rhodes Scholar, which is supposed to be for people with, get this, these upstanding qualities: "truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;" and "moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings"

For GS, a man in the "perfect storm" of being a supporter of Colbert and at least throwing him a bone, it's obvious he had to bend himself into a pretzel to only show the asinine comedy that came before Colbert even had a chance to speak TRUTH TO POWER.

This is a glaring example of the failure of the "media" to act as anything but SUPPRESSORS OF TRUTH.

Email GS, "This Week", and ABC to let them know we see the cowardice!

PLEASE WRITE THEM AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO DO SO --
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO SHAME "THIS WEEK" and REMIND GS that he's held to a higher standard than the rest of the MSM idiots, and that the world his two little girls are growing up in DEPEND ON THE TRUTH BEING SPOKEN OUT!!

Their email is thisweek@abc.com or their response form is at http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html?cat=Other-News as well if you wanted you can shame them snail-mail style here: ABCNews, 7 WEST 66th Street, New York, NY 10023. Maybe send a picture of your little kids and tell him that you depend on people like him so the world they grow up into will be BETTER not WORSE!

He/they need to be put ON NOTICE!! They're WORSE than the BEARS! If they don't shape up they'll be going on the DEAD TO ME BOARD!!

Please K and or R since you don't need any foil to see this conspiracy, even if it's just between George and himself!

The FACTS of the GS case:
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Wentworth and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Scholarship and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephanopoulos
...

Stephanopoulos was, along with David Wilhelm and James Carville, a leading member of the 1992 Clinton campaign. ... At the outset of Clinton's presidency, Stephanopoulos served as the de facto press secretary,
...

the host of ABC's Sunday morning news show This Week; he was previously a senior political adviser to the 1992 U.S. presidential campaign of Bill Clinton and later became Clinton's press secretary and communications director.
...

In December 2005, ABC News officially named him Chief Washington Correspondent.
...

offered a Rhodes Scholarship. Though he had been rejected for the scholarship during his senior year at Columbia, Stephanopoulos was successful in his second attempt.

While at Oxford, Stephanopoulos earned a master's degree in theology at Balliol College. He reported spending much of his time trying to root his political leanings in deeper philosophies that he studied while at Oxford.
...
Rhodes Scholar Standards
The requirements for applicants are high. Rhodes' legacy specified <these> standards by which applicants were to be judged:
  1. truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
  2. moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.

3. Steph got there because of US - Democrats - now this --SHAME HIM NOW;)
Well, he has no shame but maybe he has a memory...how he got there.

What an ass hat. I can't stand staffers who slide away from "their guy/gal" for a lousy job on "Maggie's Farm."

Puke, he's a lousy reporter, lousy host, and has no memory of how he got where he is. After all, he's not that interesting or even that bright. Just a semi-glib mediawhoreonline.

4. I agree with all your points :) Nonetheless it can't hurt to hand him his
ass a little bit.

A simple email costs nothing but about 30 seconds of time, right?

Give GS a polite comment, it can't hurt :)

5. I tried to be polite but decided to be honest instead
Message to This Week ....

I was very disappointed to learn that This Week has cancelled an appearance by Stephen Colbert.

With honesty and bravery and humor Colbert has garnered a lot of respect for calling "BS" on Bush and the White House Press Corpse.

Cancelling his appearance is further evidence of beltway pandering to the Bush Administration.

Again, extremely disappointing and cowardly move!

7. Was Colbert booked on the show and then cancelled?
I hope you are right or your e-mail will be dismissed immediately. You are operating on the premise he was cancelled, do you for a fact know that he was booked? If he was not you come off looking very foolish for criticizing them for an action they did not take.

14. Its no sweat off of my ass however. . .
. . .this thread is silly. It would be completely different if Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton or Teddy Kennedy stood up there and said it. Steven Colbert is not a household name. If John Stewart made the same comments it would have gotten more coverage, had George Clooney made the comments it would have gotten more coverage. I thought Colbert was BRILLIANT but THIS WEEK ON ABC ignoring is much ado about nothing.

Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 02:01 PM by KC21304
I saw him and his wife walk in on C-Span. Are you sure he was booked ? Was George's show live today ? Maybe he taped it yesterday before the dinner.

On edit, I see he had parts of the Bush duo on the show. Then I agree, that was inexcusable.

I don't see his name listed on THIS WEEK...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/29/AR2006042901038.html

I have to say that I did remember seeing his name on a Sunday Talk Show listing...was it 60 Minutes that we saw? I know that he'll be on tonight. I remembered that Condiliar was on THIS WEEK before I saw the line-up. I thought Colbert's name was listed, as well. Maybe not. We need to check into this.

23. Tranquility base, the Eagle has landed! :^)
Yes, Colbert is going to deliver the 2nd half of his 1-2 punch tonight on 60 minutes. Definately watch (though it'll be on C&L quick as can be).

AFAIK no other scheduled appearances for Colbert.

GS must have gotten orders from on high to not even mention Colbert's name on This Week considering the 4 points I make in the OP. I feel for these flaks, but they sure are not helping the country...

27. About time you woke up about Judas Maximus!
...to use Bartcop's famous nickname for him. I prefer to call him George Stuffitupyerass.

He wasn't a fit replacement for David Brinkley. He wasn't a fit replacement for Geraldo Rivera. He couldn't even fill the shoes of Martin Short playing Jiminy Glick.

Of course he didn't mention Colbert. Like the rest of the media whores, he was thoroughly reamed by him. Did you expect him to bring him on Sunday morning to finish the job before ABC's cameras?

His dad was the priest at our old church before Father was assigned there (and long before we got there). I know many who were disappointed in just how far to the right he'd gone during and after the Clinton years.

Press when your opponent's footing is not soild.

Pick your battles.

Read Art of War.

Those are all good things to do.

Good point about jihad. Most people don't realize it has a much more expansive meaning than they typically use.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad
Jihad (Arabic: جهاد ǧihād) is an Islamic term, from the Arabic root ǧhd ("to exert utmost effort, to strive, struggle"), which connotes a wide range of meanings: anything from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith to a political or military struggle to further the Islamic cause. To those the neologism "jihadist" is sometimes applied.

The term is frequently translated into English as "holy war", however, the concept encompasses more than just warfare. The denotation is of a struggle, challenge or difficulty, (frequently) opposed effort, made either in accomplishment or resistance. A person who engages in any form of jihad is called a mujahid (in plural: mujahadin), (Arabic: striver, struggler). He might engage in fighting as a military struggle for religious reasons, or for example, struggle to memorize the Qur'an.
