I don't think we can do anything to stop *
We now know that he knowingly violates any law he pleases, and with no representation in the Congress or the media, I don't really see any way to stop him within the US. Also, Iraq has shown that the UN won't do anything to stop him from attacking other countries.

So how's this going to end?

3. This is a question I'm personally afraid to ask.
Venues for legal recourse seem to be completely useless when it comes to * and his criminal behavior. It's almost as if they laugh in your face. I focus more on evangelizing my fellow American citizens to a more peaceful, and productive way of thinking -- so they see just how wicked the party of God really is. Don't know if that's really doing all that much good either, but it's nice to see people who would have at one time argued for their clueless leader now agree with you :)

13. Oh, stop it
close to a million people marched in NYC yesterday, and their sacrifice amounts to absolute zero. It has and will have no effect on anything, period. It feels good to discuss it here on DU, and I am sure the participants feel like they did their best, but in point of fact the march might as well have not happened, for the good it will do getting the country back.

6. If it weren't for term limits . . .
I would seriously be applying to the Canadian government for permission to enter the country as a permanent resident. * is the most dangerous man on this planet right now, bar none. Even the nutjobs running North Korea and Iran can't compare. :banghead:

11. I don't see what good term limits are going to do
In 2009 * will be replaced by Jeb or McCain or Rudy or Romney or Rice and the fascist state will carry on uninterrupted. The news today says, flat out, that the GOP is now above the law, and that there's nothing we can do to rein them in. If they declare in October that we won't be having elections in November, then there won't be elections in November, and that will be that.

Your idea of leaving may be the correct solution. I applied for a number of jobs across Canada for this fall but struck out. I'll probably try again next year.

9. When Poppy sought re-election the conservative pundits went squishy
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 07:50 PM by Old Crusoe
on him. You could tell they knew Bill Clinton was going to win. A contact on a newspaper's editorial board (the board is VERY Republican) told me outright in July of '92 that "I'm afraid the country is going to elect Bill Clinton to the presidency." Regret dripped from his lips in a torrent.

The in-the-know people knew early on that Poppy was cooked, and that the Democrats that year were energized.

Conservative pundits now sneer at Bush. They regard him as a poor manager and an emotionally damaged twit who is bringing other GOP people down with him. They regard themselves as purer vessels of Conservatism, and their condescension of Dubya is visible and pervasive. Not a good sign for the future of a GOP presidency.

Junior burst out of the gate great guns, with a huge push from 9/11. How marvelous and tough and heroic he was on the heap of rubble with that bullhorn. And how pathetic and ignored he is now, even in his own party, whose senior members are at last telling him he cannot govern unless he makes significant changes.

The more stubborn the little fool is, the fewer meangingful reforms he will make, and therefore the deeper his hole gets. Poppy has evidently sent in The Fixer, Jim Baker, to try and shore up the levies, but the perception by the public and even the press now is that trustworthiness has evaporated from this administration, escaped like a genie from a bottle. And that is one genie that doesn't lend itself to being re-stuffed. Lyndon Johnson, faced with a similarly insurmountable loss of public trust, threw in the towel in March of '68. Bush won't ever say outloud that he was wrong, or that his mistakes were grievous, or that policies he stubbornly trumpeted are failed policies.

And Mr. Fitzgerald's next piece of news might be interesting for Dubya's chief advisor, White House Smearmaster Karl Rove.

The table is set for a possible flip of the U.S. House, with a longer shot at the Senate. With the House alone, Conyers as Judiciary Chair would have the votes to subpoena documents in support of articles of impeachment.

After McGovern was buried alive by Richard Nixon in 1972, no one in the peace movement or the burgeoning environmental awareness movement or the civil rights community had much hope. Two summers later, the hideous creep resigned in disgrace.

Let things take their course. Everyone is answerable to actions, and especially so if you are a wild-cattin' coke-sniffin' pseudo-cowboy who has made a hell of a lot of enemies in the last 6 years.

I say Dubya's karmic boomerang is about to hit.

12. Your analogy to Nixon is completely useless
In 1972 we had checks and balances, as prescribed by the Constitution. Today the Congress and media are part and parcel of the criminal organization that is run from the White House.

There won't be any flip of either house of Congress. If by some chance they can't figure out how to Diebold the House profile, then we won't have elections. And in case you haven't noticed, there won't be a thing we can do about it. They fixed the 2000 election, they fixed the 2004 election, and no one did anything. Why would any sane person belileve that this year's election are going to to fair? * has gotten away with at least 50 impeachable offenses, and yet remains in the WH and his enablers remain in control of all the branches of government. Soon the internet will be restricted, so the only info we'll have available is the same lies we get from the RW media now.

14. I don't see the landscape as appealing because I'm a liberal Democrat but
I also haven't given up on the mechanisms of government.

As I said, this is a man who has made many enemies. He has gotten away with way too much, we agree.

But his good fortune has run out. A comedian took him to the cleaners last night, and members of his own party have bolted from the fold.

This is a failed presidency, and I assert that November 7th is going to be a blue day for a lot of our candidates.

24. Hi, paparush. I stand by my claim. Not "everything" has changed.
The off-year special elections have favored blue over red, including in districts where Diebold has sway.

Today two more polls were released, CBS and USAToday/Gallup, both showing that only a third of voter respondents approve of Bush's performance. It is clear that some of his base is eroding, and you can only whip their sorry asses to the polls so often on the fear of gay marriage. I mean, even the thickest fundie in the land knows that if he's secure enough in his own sexuality he does't need to go vote for no OTHER reason than to legally prohibit dicksucking. And the GOP this year is giving him no other reason to show up. It will likely depress GOP base support in many swing districts.

Campaigns & Elections magazine, edited by Ron Fachaux, already predicts a Democratic win in south-central Indiana -- the district Lee Hamilton held for years but which Democrat Baron Hill lost last time to a neanderthal Rethug named Mike Sodrel. Sodrel has the intelligence of a catcher' mitt, and already Campaigns & Elections (which has a 99% correct-analysis projection rate) is calling Hill to re-take the seat for the Democrats. And the primary isn't until tomorrow.

If you want the Campaigns & Elections website, let me know.

I don't argue with you that some things have changed, and not for the better, but not "everything." A lot of us have been out there a while, and we're still out there, and we're willing to kick a lot of Republican ass this summer and next fall.

By the way, a bit off-subject here, but I love your signature quote. Very nicely chosen.

10. It is not just Bush
It is the whole lot of them. Bush is just the puppet. Romeny is next, or Jeb Bush. As long as diebold is in place and there is no way to confirm the votes, we are lost. The republic is in crisis.

15. REVOLUTION!! REVOLUTION!! REVOLUTION!!
I've been saying this for over a year now!

Yes, I KNOW our protests don't get covered, but I think if we could just have several HUGE protests, NOT about ONE issue, but something simple that says...We The People, Remember Us???

Or Remember The Bill Of Rights, just something that is overwhelmingly General that can't be attacked as some Liberal March, something that RWer's won't be able to counter with the usual ATTACK CRAP!!

We have so many here blogging day after day after and all night long, there MUST be several thousand or so who are much more intelligent than I, and have the SKILLS and connections to START something!

If immigrants can organize massive protests at the drop of a hat, well why can't we??

16. It may come to that.
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 09:49 PM by Brigid
I think that Americans are at long last waking up to the fact that we have been pretty much shut out of the political process. Voting becomes meaningless if elections are full of fraud, and there is no one who listens to our concerns and sticks up for us anyway. If taking to the streets is what it takes, that's what it takes. If worst comes to worst, there's always Canada. I'm just not ready to give up just yet, that's all.

17. Thanks For Agreeing With Me... I Just Posted This Message Again
at another post this morning. I have decided that I'm unwilling to "leave" my country and let them win. They have done far too much damage already and the time has come for it to STOP!

I plan to keep posting this idea with the hope that it will catch on. It's all I know to do. We need NATIONAL attention and I live in a state where it's going to be extremely hard to get anything done. Not only in state, but in county. My representative is Cruella herself and there is ABSOLUTELY no way to even get her attention on ANY issue. She ignores EVERY Democrat! This past week-end I signed up to do door-to-door canvassing for "paper ballots" once again here in this county! We can't even get that much. Next in line... Jebby, yeah right! Then Mel Martinez????? And coming up in the rear Bill Nelson!!! Batting a thousand now!

Tell me WHO do I APPEAL to??? So here I am trying to pitch this idea.

Can't WE do this???

have? And perhaps we've yet to find that common thread to make us as powerful? I don't know what the answer is. Perhaps fear?

Also many of the corps (e.g. Tyson Foods) that employ these people are voluntarily closing today. That fact says volumes about how today's protests are "good for business".
