1. The primary season is much more compressed than it was 12 years ago |
|
Candidates don't have as muct time to recover if they do poorly.

4. why is it set up this way? |

Is there a reason for scattering the primaries rather than just having one big election day where everyone votes?
I'm not saying the other way would be better - I'm sure each option has its pros and cons - I'm just wondering why it's done this way. Anyone know?

so the Democratic Party can control the whole thing.
You wouldn't want the people to control this, would you?

2. There was also a free press back then. |

I think that it's depressing that the media have gone from covering the race to deciding who will be the nominee beforehand. But then again, the media have a vested interest.

3. Thanks for bringing some sanity back into this. |

Despite the compressed schedule, we are STILL early in the game. Usually the lesson one learns from history is that things aren't as extreme as you think they are, and that's the lesson here, too.

There also used to be 6 weeks between NH and the next round. The front-loaded primaries, combined with a twisted media driven bandwagon effect, makes this season much different, imho.
