Hey Democrats: Don't nominate a Senator!
Hey guys, please don't nominate a Senator. Parties keep doing it, and they keep losing.

By my count 30 Presidential elections have had a sitting Senator at the top of a ticket. By my count, 2 of them have won. That's not a good sign.

These are the jobs voters seem to like their new presidents to have:
Vice president
Governor
General
Secretary of State

Find one of those (Warner, Gore, Clark... OK, not Albright, but somebody) and put them on the ticket.

Stop nominating Senators! They don't have executive experience to point to. They tend to have made embarrassing votes for difficult-to-explain reasons.

1. If only Albright were eligible to run
I think she'd make a fine president.

3. Why? You think this is the same media that we had in past decades?
Yeah - let's ignore that the GOP controls the corporate media and the electronic voting machines as long as we change the top of the ticket to anything but a senator - cuz we all know that governors, generals, and VPs are all immune to the media and the voting machines.

4. The voting record is the tough part
That's one of the reason we're getting so many governors. Except for the difficulty in getting elected, I think the Senate is a good place to find leadership - the last sitting Senator to get elected was JFK. We should also count Kerry - we were robbed.

5. how do you know they want a Sec of State? We've never nominated one
or a general for that matter--the last one was Ike. As for VP, Nixon lost in 1960, Humphrey lost in 1968, Mondale lost in 1984 and Gore did win, but not convincingly enough to stop the GOP from stealing the election. True Senators do have a sorry track record too, but on the other hand--Presidents Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon had all been a Senator at one time. Still, if your point is that we should nominate somebody who doesn't have exclusively Washington experience that might be true given how fed up people are about Washington these days. Too bad most of the Democratic field currently showing interest in running are Senators.

9. Madison?
I thought Madison was TJ's sitting secretary of state when he ran. There haven't been that many generals running but I think they're 3 for 3: Harrison the Elder, Grant, and Ike.

16. I doubt he meant "sitting" VPs.

As a sitting VP has only won twice (Adams and Bush the you-have-to-give-him-credit-for-not-being-nearly-as-stupid-as-his-son).

7. Vice President used to be the kiss of death, too. Still is.
There was a 150-year gap between Martin Van Buren and Bush the Smarter. In between 1837 and 1988, no sitting Vice President won a Presidential election. The other VP Presidents first acquired the office through succession or, in the case of Tricky Dick, patience and dirty tricks.

Al Gore might get credit for the win in 2000, but Bush the Dumber holds the trophy, know what I'm sayin'?

8. Senators do have a problem winning
and it's primarily because they have voting records to defend. BTW, Gore was once a senator, although it was awhile ago.

10. Lots have been Senators before
But statistically sitting Senators have done very poorly in POTUS races.

11. This has been brought up by
the msm in their campaign coverage. Yes, senator's voting records are out there and can be used negatively. And, there may even be a valid reason the candidate voted that way at that time. Having said this, the repubs are past masters at dirty campaigning. The Dems often believe that the electorate has the time and/or inclination to learn the truth. Wrong. The repubs would make Mother Teresa look like a criminal if necessary - and if they were convincing enough, some of the electorate would swallow it hook, line and sinker. It's not just the "senator" problem, it's being equipped to fight fire with fire.

14. Dems can nominate General Jesus Christ, Gov. of Ohio, and the corpmedia
will be piling on him with RNC talking points that he is a craven rapist who is not trusted by the men and women of the armed forces who he left to die on Mt. Olympus.

Count on it.

12. We need to take back the Senate.
Anyone who could make a credible run for the Presidency is probably also someone doing a great job in the Senate. Can we afford to lose anyone?

I want to nominate a person who can reasonably do the job.
