Giving lie to Bush's personal popularity
Here's how Karl Rove would have you think:
Rove also said that people personally like the president. "The American people like this president. His personal approval ratings are in the 60s. Job approval is lower."
Here's how reality makes Rove look like the schmuck he is:
Six public polls in recent weeks showed the opposite of Rove's account - that Bush's personal approval ratings have dropped since he was re-elected in 2004:

• A recent Gallup poll for USA Today showed that 39 percent had a favorable opinion of Bush, while 60 percent had an unfavorable opinion. In mid-November 2004, 60 percent had a favorable opinion and 39 percent unfavorable.

• Pollster John Zogby found 42 percent with a favorable opinion and 55 percent unfavorable. In November 2004, it was 58 percent favorable, 40 percent unfavorable.

• A poll for CBS and the New York Times showed that 29 percent had a favorable opinion of Bush, while 55 percent had an unfavorable opinion.

"The president's public perception problem is not only about his dismal job performance, but also his striking lack of personal favorability," said Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg.

Personal favorability can encompass many things in the minds of voters: character, respect, warmth, kinship, even whether a voter would want to have a beer with a politician. Or in the case of the teetotaling Bush, a soda.

Bush has lost ground on most of those measures.

Gallup, for example, found drops in the number of people who think that Bush is honest and trustworthy, that he shares their values and that he cares about people like them.
President Bush isn't popular, folks. Personally or professionally.

1. Doesn't surprise me.
I have never seen even a glimmer of the charisma he's supposed to radiate. He's an ignorant, condescending man and anybody with eyes and a heart sees this immediately.

3. BTW -- "Condi is a rock star"
Edited on Sat May-20-06 02:52 PM by chookie
It's like a magical incantation -- that if you say it enough times, it will become true.

As one of my friends, who does not follow current events closely said to me, when she heard something wacky Condi said about Iraq -- "Gee -- do they think we're all on LSD?"

It's not just Dems -- I know lifelong Republicans who hate Bush, Rummy, Condi and Dick with the same or greater intensity than I do.

The talking point for years was that if you disagreed or disliked His Chimperial Highness, that you were some isolated freak.

After 5 years of getting the "Who do you believe -- me or your own eyes?" treatment, and being expected to swallow ever bigger and bigger piles of bullshit, people reclaimed their intellectual independence, and in ever increasing numbers are standing up to W and the lapdog press who have sheltered him all these years. It's been a leaderless revolution.

Now we're being told by the press that Condi is a "rock star." Huh? How far do you have to have your head up your ass to think Condi is a "rock star"? I can't get past the fact that she has been breathtakingly incompetent, and has been a failure of catastropic dimensions.

4. Before the 2000 election the media described him as "sneering" and
"sarcastic". How, after he was elected, did he suddenly take on the mantle of being "charismatic" and everybody's choice to have a drink with? This is a phony deal perpetrated by the Republicans with the aid of the media.

6. Are you talking about the Canadian media or the U.S. media?
Because here the meme generally pushed by the media was that Gore was an uptight liar and Bush was a "regular" guy. :eyes:

5. I don't see anything charismatic at all about Bush
I didn't like Reagan's political beliefs but at least he had some charisma like Clinton who I liked alot more than Ronald Reagan. :dem:

7. That's so typical....they can't find people who approve
of this job performance--which is the only substantial, important part of a presidency.....so they talk about his charm.....not!

Rove sure is desperate!!

Well you got to figure if they will lie to get us into a war--they will lie about anything. Maybe Rove should take a poll on Bush's personal credibility!!!
