Clark Supporters: Strategize!
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 12:16 AM by tishaLA
I have two recommendations for the Clark campaign right now. My sternness appears because of my love.

1. Tell the campaign to be more proactive with the press. Where the hell were the Clark spokespeople this evening, in Dick Cheney's secure undisclosed location? The cable news networks would have LOVED to have them on--or Clark himself, who was NOWHERE when he wasn't giving a speech. Get someone out there and give them hell. We can bitch about the media ignoring us, but we have to look to the campaign, also.

2. Make sure the media is aware--and that the campaign promotes--that Clark came in first and several seconds. As someone else has pointed out, Clark has beaten Edwards in 5 out of 8 contests. Send emails to the campaign, to any media you think is ignoring Wes, etc. and make sure this point is clear. Tweety even said, as he was signing off tonight, that Clark has to be considered a player. That's right. Now make sure everyone knows it.

2b. Gert. A ballsy, brassy future first lady. Get her to talk.

On edit: What do you suggest? I'm sure this is hardly the last word.

2. I'll be working on the WA caucus as a Clark Captain this week.
I'll pass along your very sensible recommendations.
Tho' according to Joel Connelly the WA Clark office is
not in close contact with the Little Rock headquarters (!?)
So someone get that input to Arkansas, please!

And I sure as hell wish they'd sent some Clark signs to
us in WA. We have NONE. Kerry signs are everywhere.
Whatever, I'll improvise. :)

4. Ditto.
Gert is Clark's secret weapon. She's his BEST campaigner... the woman is simply phenomenal and she should be out there more trying to increase Clark's support AMONG WOMEN (where he is weakest).

5. Let's take it to the DNC
All of us. Separete emails and phone calls. Nothing that looks like a conspiracy. Just flood the DNC with demands that Clark be given the respect in this campaign he deserves. They have a part to play in how the media covers this too. I think he deserves it. Whadya think?

23. Hmm, I see
Well, I guess we all have some.

Dean I could understand. He shot himself in the foot so many times I'm amazed he can still walk. But Clark, there's no reason he hasn't gotten more attention. I don't understand it. It just makes me mad. Because even though I'm for Kerry, I don't want the media picking him as our candidate either.

6. Edwards has more delegates, Clark was too chicken to even compete in Iowa
and fell from 25% in NH to 13%, you think they won't notice the collapse in NH, Oklahoma, and Iowa, where he should've gotten far more delegates.

9. Let's see, Jenk
in NH, OK & SC, Clark edged out Edwards in 2 of the 3 races in which they truly competed head to head. SC was disappointing but in Edwards 'own' words, it's his back yard.

10. it's not "edging" it's momentum
Clark came into the race with so much fanfare and immediately jumped to the front of the pack while Edwards was in single digits. Since then Edwards has passed him.

24. Here in our Clark Supporters Strategize thread
we appreciate your commentary... but i dont see how it's terribly relevant to the thread.

Edwards does not lead Clark in the latest TN polls... (taken before Clark had won a state I might add)... Edwards did NOT beat Clark in NH... Edwards did NOT beat Clark in OK - even though a LOT of republicans voted for him to try and get Clark OUT of the race...

Edwards is running interference for the Dem establishment. From a Clark strategy perspective, they probably do need to target Edwards. I think I'd start on his absolute lack of foreign policy credentials, and lack of capacity to run the country in a time where our allies dislike us and our enemies hate our guts.

38. You're off:
Actual delegate count was Edwards 59, Clark 49.

FWIW, Clark's first and 3 seconds compared to Edwards' first and 2 seconds means that Clark collected delegates in more states.

32. Just to say it right now
How about we Clark people ignore these interlopers who don't seem to know what they are talking about. No need to waste website space dealing with these people that we can use figuring out what to do in our next step.

8. Good plan
We have to nail the media HARD, someone I know from the meetup yesterday mentioned that the Dean people used that strategy early on to get him attention and get him going. If he hit them around enough, they will conform.

Also, let's start getting what cash we can together for Wes, register all the voters you CAN, and buildup. The gains that we made today are great indeed and will help us in Virginia and Tennessee, if we make a pair of good strong showings in those two states, hopefully winning them both, that will be a nice bump leading to Super Tuesday.

Barring all else though, we MUST win Super Tuesday. No two ways about it. THAT will push Clark forward to the front-runner spot and possibly gain him the nomination. This is going to be a hard fight, but we can now win it.

14. But hit the Clark Campaign hard, too!
If we have people from the campaign OUT THERE instead of having dinner on election night, we have a better chance of getting coverage. We need to tell them to get on the ball! Whomever is in charge of that for the campaign needs to take lessons from the Dean campaign and get out there and make every utterance a media event. I am unwilling to make this just a Clark vs. media thing. It has to be Clark supporters leaning on the candidate's camp, too.

11. my suggestions
First of all I met Gert's younger brother, Don, last night at our Clark MeetUp. He kept it a surprise till the end. He stressed that the MOST important thing we can do is write and call voters in upcoming states. Check out E-Blocks on the clark04 website for info.

Contributions are important also (for those who are able).

The media is too big a problem to effectively fight right now so although it's good to work on this aspect it can't be the top priority right now. Let's get Clark more wins and force them to focus some positive attention on him.

12. Seized a small opportunity tonight
I work for a tv station here in Oklahoma City as an on air board operator. We rebroadcast one of the major affiliate's 10 pm. news. The local ran long with election coverage, much of which was General Clark's victory speech. We have a set 30 min time slot to fill,so I called our traffic manager and got the OK to dump a bunch of promo spots to run the additional "election coverage" and was able to put The General in front of some folks that might not have seen him otherwise.

I am going to look for all the opportunities I can snag:)

30. In Reno our public TV station is showing american son
1) Get local stations or public or community stations to run American Son

2) Get the message out to the media about the 55 diplomats that have endorsed Clark. Get this to the local media in the next states to ahve primary

3) Call Call Call especially the next primary states, starting on Wed. get to e-block

4) E-mail the media and tell them you want to see more of Clark

5) Get a bumper sticker exposure exposure exposure. A little bit of "goo be gone" and a blow dryer will get the sticker off after the election.

5) Write letters to the March 2nd participant in primaries if you do not like the phone

6) e-mail or call all media outlets saying thanks for any positive stories and complain about negatives.

40. TN & VA are vitally important!!
I posted this on another thread but it bears repeating!

TN & VA could possibly decide once and for all between Clark and Edwards!

If we have wins over Edwards in TN & VA we will in the best possible shape to take on Kerry. This close race between Clark and Edwards needs to end soon. A victory for us in TN & VA will do that!

We have ONE week to really make a HUGE difference in this campaign! We need to concetrate on beating Edwards in TN & VA. If we can achieve that we will emerge as the best alternative to Kerry.

Please, please do whatever you can to help Wes win here!
