Brief analysis of Clark's situation

Last night Clark accomplished the minimum he needed in order to proceed. I was hoping for a cleaner win in OK and a win in either NM or AZ.

Anyway, I believe he absolutely must win TN next week, and must also finish ahead of Edwards in VA. It would also be nice to pick up delegates on Saturday (MI, WA).

Thoughts?

3. Pull out all the stops in TN & VA

Clark must now put all his remaining eggs in TN & VA. He must beat Edwards in both, and win (i.e. beat Kerry) in TN at least, since otherwise Kerry proves he can win in the South and it's over.

Basically, he is still alive, but he can't keep finishing second and third with the occasaional first and expect to do anything.

My analysis of this election is simple. Someone has to win the Dean/Clark/Edwards fight within one week. Because Kerry is going to win delegates in every state while the other three fight for the leftovers. By the time a second contender emerges, Kerry is going to be miles and miles ahead of them.

But there is nothing wrong with Clark's performance. What he is doing is remarkable considering he is a relatively unknown novice in politics.

4. I agree...

Clark is doing remarkably well given his inexperience and media antipathy. And you're also correct in that the Clark/Dean/Edwards fight must be resolved soon. I think it will: Dean will lose badly again on Saturday (and will see poor polling in Wisconsin), and next Tuesday (VA, TN) should leave only one of Edwards & Clark standing.

5. Deep touble

TexasPatriot posted last night that he'll have a live shot in TX, but the other delegate-rich states are in the North - MI, PA, OH, and I on't think he can beat Kerry there.

It's a shame, really. I think we blew an opportunity to get the party set up for a nice long run. I believe he could have united the nation and reclaimed our spot as the envy of the world with his intellect, experience, and personality. Even the RW-media-soaked American people would have been able to detect the improvement, and I think Wes could have approached popularity levels approaching WJC's best.

Having JFK as the nominee will mean that the margin of error in November will be almost 0. I believe that running Clark would have brought AR, AZ, NV, OK, SC, and maybe TN, MO, and LA into play. Without those, Kerry will have to sweep the rust belt and the NE and WV - no margin for error. Also, Kerry's coattails will be minimal, consigning us to a hostile Congress even if he soueaks though. And hate radio will have a much easier time undermining Kerry than they would have with Wes.

Sorry, but I reiterate that I think we squandered a golden opportunity to bring scads of new/lapsed people to our side. As long as Smirk is back in Crawford a year from now we'll be alot better off than we are now, but we could've done better, IMO.

6. Here's my strategy

Today we do our job. Tomorrow we do our job. And we keep doing our job until Wes either wins or gives.

10. Dean and Clark need to declare a ticket now!

That is the only to beat Kerry at this point and inject some life and media into the campaign. Remember the good old days of dreaming of a Dean/Clark Clark/Dean ticket? Combine their delegates and they might be ahead of Kerry!

Just a dream I know.:-)
