John Gibson on Iraq & "Bush Haters"..."Fine. They hate him. I get it."
Who Should You Believe About Iraq War: Democrats or Zarqawi?
Friday, June 16, 2006
By John Gibson

I knew it was going to come to this and you're going to see the proof at the end of the program in Your Word when I read some e-mails. Here we have the Dems saying we're losing in Iraq, and Zarqawi, or Zarqawi's adviser, saying the Americans are winning. I say: Who are you going to believe? Why would you take the word of a congressman in Washington who has a political stake in the question over the word of a dead terrorist whose people are sizing up their own situation vs. American and Iraqi troops? Who is inherently more credible? So what do I get? It's a fake, John. They are making it up, John. It's a lie, John. Zarqawi was blown to smithereens by two 500-pounders and you're pulling a Zip drive out of his pocket and this note just happens to be on it?

Uhhh, no, they found it before the bombing in a Zarqawi safehouse, though they did find a Zip drive in his pocket that led to other raids. What's so hard to comprehend? Remember, this is the guy who cuts heads off and writes long letters to his so-called bosses, Usama and Zawahiri, in which they talk about how things are going. This isn't the first time we've intercepted these notes.

But no, say the Bush haters. It's got to be a fake. Why? Because if it's the real deal, if this really is Zarqawi's own assessment of the insurgency or if it's the assessment of one of his close advisers, and it sounds like it has to be one or the other, then the Democrat argument is blown to hell bigger than the safehouse that blew up when Zarqawi was cornered there. Bush says the strategy in Iraq is working. The Democrats don't believe him. Fine. They hate him. I get it.

Zarqawi says the strategy in Iraq is working. But the Democrats don't believe him. Because why again? Because he's a blood-drenched terrorist and therefore he would lie about his own situation. Of course, he would say the Americans are winning because uhhh, well, that line of argument just doesn't make sense, does it? This Iraq war may yet go as bad as the Democrats seem to hope it is. But the idea that it's not working now is absurd, and the proof is in the thoughts of our own enemies talking to each other about their situation. If you can't believe that, then you have to say the documents are fake. Or you just have to have your head buried so deep in the sand you don't know if you're in Washington or Iraq or if it's night or day. That's My Word.

4. Sorry Gibson, but perhaps Zarqawi is right and the Democrats are right too
For the sake of argument, let's say that Zarqawi/al Queda is right and that they are weakened and that al Queda is in trouble. Native Iraqis don't seem to care for foreign invaders like al Queda who kill civilians along with anyone else who get in their way. Fine. Al Queda is scum. We don't like al Queda, Iraqis don't like them either.

Here is the big hole in your argument. Al Queda, even according to administration officials, is a small part of the insurgency in Iraq. When Democrats say things aren't going well, they are right.
There is a struggle for power in Iraq. Sunni versus Shia, the secular vs the theocrats, those who go along with the US presence and those who want us out. Then we have folks who hate our guts for ripping apart their country, killing their family members, bombing their buildings and power plants. Even with all our power and money, we can't supply the Iraqis with the basic necessities of life.

So, Mr Gibson...hooray that al Queda is weakened and losing the battle for hearts and minds in Iraq. Every one of them could die or give up but it won't make much of a difference in Iraq.
Why? Because the "war on terror" is a contrivance. Our problems in Iraq have little to do with
the "war on terror".

6. Ever read Mediabistro/tvnewser?
When it comes to TV, they paint a stark picture for the cable news business.

First, I do IT consulting work for auto dealers, and when it comes to intelligence, the average car salesperson is not as dumb as a box of rocks, but not quite as smart as a bag of hammers. The most read home page for these guys is CNN. I'm seeing more MS-NBC, and occasionally World Dreck Daily (the REAL dumb-asses read that). NO FAUX.

here is the point

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/

The Scoreboard: Thursday, June 15

Total viewers: (thousands)

Total day: FNC: 804 | CNN: 420 | MSNBC: 189 | HLN: 156 | CNBC: 173
Prime: FNC: 1,849 | CNN: 696 | MSNBC: 223 | HLN: 288 | CNBC: 150

Nearly 6,000,000 households watch Spongebob every night. A one half of one hour show.

Don't get your panties in a knot over FAUX.

9. funny how they pooh pooh the idea...
that it's potentially absurd to think we could recover a zip drive from the pocket of someone killed by high explosives... or that surely the remains of anyone so killed wouldn't exactly be in good condition (depending on how close, whether they could find recognizable body parts would be in question). Or, that even if we did, that their source could as easily provide us with "information" from any source--that, given their record of falsehoods and secrecy, that it's even less than realistic (unrealistic even) to expect we would get access to ANY actual Zarqawi data--and that they would most probably provide intentionally prepared/fabricated material to support their narrative!

guys, terrorists obviously would rely on low capacity, clumsy zip drives rather than backing up their data on CDs/DVDs, and masterminds never go anywhere without their data backup drives in their pockets or, at least, leaving them lying around their safe houses! obviously they lack the sophistication and access to software to encrypt their data in such a way that 'we' can't decrypt it (we all know the CIA/NSA can decrypt anything). anyway, those drives/disks are very robust/durable and even if they were in an explosion would come out okay.

and of course if we recovered secret terrorist documents, our government would tell us about it! maybe they wouldn't give all of it to us, but they'd happily summarize the meaning of what they found for us. and you, you have the impudence to claim they'd lie to us? no way... they wouldn't do that, they'd never do that... that wouldn't be honest, it wouldn't be American... it just makes no sense that they would lie--not even if it worked to their advantage! (coincidentally... it does). alas, you can't even see that it's just unpatriotic and paranoid to think our government would fabricate details of terrorist communications! you're so pathetic. you're just awful people, you're un-American garbage and it's my biggest regret that "we 'real' Americans" have to endure/put-up-with you--just because you were so privileged as to have been born here. if you don't like it here, you should just leave--i'm sure osama would love to share his cave with you. so why don't you get it through your tin-hat covered, thick paranoid skulls: our government never lies to us and would never lie to us! especially not about iraqi terrorists that they courageously risked their lives to 'take out'... so, there is no doubt now, no doubt at all, that the insurgency really is on it's last legs--and that we're winning, our saavy military/anti-terrorist tactics are paying off and we'll soon have all of iraq celebrating Christmas! your desire to see America fail has been disproved and you'll pay for it by being forever relegated to a permanent minority. now go away and bother somebody else.

10. Nice hair.
I wonder how much he pays for that mop.

Did Johnny read the dispatches from Iraq in this post-zarqawi Glorious Victory Again era? Same shit as it ever was. Did John of the lizard hair read the WP article on the embassay assesment of the actual real world situation in Iraq?

Yes we remain skeptical about everything the administration says or does. It seems that they are chronic liars who have a track record of going to war on fraud and deception. Eventually they may earn back our trust, but until then they are liars until proven otherwise.

11. I get it
To paraphrase:

Bush says the strategy in Iraq is working. And Fox News chooses to believe him. Because why again? Because he's a dishonest, corrupt, and incompetent President and therefore he would lie about his own situation. Of course, he would say the Americans are winning because uhhh, well, that line of argument just doesn't make sense, does it? This Iraq war has already gone as bad as any sane person would expect it to. But the idea that it's not working now is not acceptable to our management, and the proof is in the thoughts we brainwash our viewers with. If you don't believe us, then we have to say your patriotism is fake. We'll bury you so deep in right-wing bullshit that you won't be able to tell your country from Taliban-era Afghanistan. That's My Word.

13. Perhaps Zarqui's assessment was meant as an appeal for ...
funding and recruits in the same way any military officer would appeal. If you want more you don't say every thing's going great. You try and paint a picture of urgent need.

If things were really going badly for the insurgents the number of bombings would be going down not up. But I guess if your head is buried deep in your ass you can't see how pathetic and desperate a FOX news whore John Gibson is. That's my word.

14. John Gibson, who believes in pre-emptive murder
No Gibson thread should ever appear without a re-citing of this Fascist masterpiece:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163420,00.html

Turns out he didn't have a bomb, and turns out he wasn't one of the four bombers Thursday. And if it turns out ultimately that he had nothing to do with anything, no doubt there will be hell to pay. But the police say he was linked to the terror probe, so let's wait and see.

Meantime, got to admire the cojones of those Brit cops to go after him like that. All of this trumps any of my other complaints that the Brits weren't making the right noises about fighting terror. They like to go about things a bit more quietly than us. Not my style, but okay, fine — as long as they get the five in the noggin of the right bomber boy. They do that and I'm fine.

So for the moment, alls well. Just catch the four bombers. Five in the noggin is fine. Don't complain that sounds barbaric. We're fighting barbaric.
