Edwards campaign in Michigan

NO ONE is advertising here. I think if someone did, they would probably win over a lot of people -- no competition. The polls all show Kerry with a huge lead. But talking to people around here, most of the people who plan to vote for Kerry are doing so only because he's won in other places. They know nothing about the man or his positions. I respect Kerry, and I wouldn't mind him winning the nomination, but I just honestly don't think he's the best guy for the nomination, I don't think he's the best guy for the country, and I really don't think he's the best guy for Michigan.

is still considering whether to spend money in MI and to visit.

He's in TN and VA today and then going to NY for fundraisers and to read the Top 10 list on David Letterman.

I think they have written off the WA caucus on Saturday as well.

6. Edwards and manufacturing jobs

Manufacturing is a big sector of the Michigan economy and I think Edwards could appeal to a lot of people there who are suffering from our trade policies.

Washington state doesn't look that good for Edwards, so I would agree that he should write it off.

8. He might have a problem explaining why he didn't vote on the over

time bill though. He should have made that a point of his campaign if he wanted Michigan voters. I am sorry that he didn't do that. :(

The final vote passed overwhelmingly, unfortunately, because many Democrats such as Dianne Feinstein voted in favor of it.

He was away from DC, campaigning that week.

22. I definitely understand that, philosophically and emotionally.

I just mean that, unfortunately, there were so many Democrats (and all the Republicans) who voted in favor of it, that I can understand why the Democratic presidential candidates decided it would be futile to come back for the vote. He would have been unable to help you. Of course I don't blame you at all for how you feel. I just wish that the reality weren't as grim as it is. I can only hope that the fraud in the WH will be ousted in November, and whoever our candidate is will have long coattails.

24. Disclaimer..I am anybody but Bush, but I am not thrilled nor are

those who work in manufacturing over the decision not to vote on a measure that affects so many. It would have made a great campaign point here. I was trying to shed light on why I think Michigan may be an upset to so many who seem supremely confident. :hi:

He (and Kerry) would have voted if it would have made a difference, think he did vote on a previous cloture vote. Kerry has voted for EVERY trade agreement.

He should go for Michigan. You are right about the manufacturing sector and trade. Edwards needs to win in a Northern state and if he doesn't fight for Michigan he may lose momentum. Kerry will pick it up, Clark may also have a chance there.

I'm disappointed MI isn't getting more attention. We are a state up for grabs, but the candidates don't feel it is necessary to pursue us. This could hurt Dems in the national election if a candidate who chooses not to campaign in MI wins. And the only signs/stickers I've seen around here are Clark or Dean. Luckily, I have already voted online :-)

16. I think the problem is timing. There is no question MI is a crucial

state. But with several candidates (Edwards, Clark & Lieberman) fighting just to stay alive this week, with limited time and money for 7 states, what could they do? They had to go to where they thought they could win, and even then, I believe Edwards went basically only to SC and Oklahoma. I totally agree with you that MI should get attention, but I just don't see how these guys could do it, given that a loss there and no wins anywhere else would have been catastrophic. I wish there were more time between the primaries.

7. No one is airing any ads and I am angry. The NAACP is holding

a Town Meeting and only three of the candidates have responded with a yes to the invitation-Clark,Dean, and Sharpton. Anyone who doesn't show up for this is going to be sorry in my opinion come Saturday. Plus we had a great turnout for absentee ballots, combine that with no big UAW endorsement, and this state is anybody's to win...just come talk to us.

depending on how much of a victory bump is seen in the polls, how well his fundraiser goes tonight in NYC, and how Letterman's top 10 plays off.
