Yesterday I was at the polls all day with my Edwards signs, stickers and info. We also had a few Dean, DK and Kerry supporters there. There were a few politicians and local campaign workers there gathering signatures for various petitions too. Though we all supported different candidates we all got along really well with each other. Throughout the day we shared campaign stories, personal tales, jokes, food, ideas, etc., etc.
All of us helped each other in one way or another, whether it was holding someone's clipboard, sharing an umbrella/tent when the showers came or getting voters to sign the various petitions that were going around. While I was busy talking to a voter, a Dean volunteer helped a young girl put on a John Edwards sticker I had given her. I myself answered a few questions about Clark (in a positive way) for voters that wanted information on him since there were no Clark volunteers there. Another Dean supporter was helping a Kerry volunteer put up a yard sign. The list of examples are endless.
It's kind of funny - one of the local stations newscaster was so surprised by the friendliness of the rival campaigns volunteers that they interviewed us and did a long story on it for the nightly news. The piece came out really nice.
The congeniality extended to the voters as well. Everyone was upbeat and friendly with each other and the campaign volunteers. We all were mingling and sharing jokes. People were asking about volunteering for the Democratic party, registering their family and friends for November, etc.
I think at the end of the day we were all wishing that those working for the other campaigns had chosen to work for our own instead :-)
The only loser on the day was *! The energy and voter turnout was very high. His days are numbered as AZ will go Democratic in November.
